A few things to fix in copy, one quote that isn't, and some sections that need CLOP remediation, but well on its way. You know your seamy underbelly of 2000s reality. Ping me when changes are made. Sammi Brie (she/her • t • c) 03:57, 1 March 2024 (UTC)
- I appreciate you taking on this review! I have gone through the article and made all of the suggested changes. If any of these changes are not up to par or you have anything further, please let me know and I'll promptly revise it. Underclass King (talk) 12:34, 2 March 2024 (UTC)
Did you know? If you fancy doing so, I always have plenty of GA nominees to review. Just look for the all-uppercase titles in the Television section. Reviews always appreciated.
Copy changes
[edit]- by the American Broadcasting Company (ABC) Even though the article title has to be disambiguated, in context (and in practice in this field) it would be acceptable simply to say "by ABC", especially as it is stated as an American show. (I diverge from MOS:ACRO1STUSE here)
- Hyphenate "four bedroom" and "2.5 bath" as adjectives.
families "are used to a certain kind of neighbor—one who looks and thinks just like them."
Since this is a quote of a sentence fragment, period goes outside quotes (MOS:LOGICAL). This issue recurs several times.- These two sentences sound very similar and they are back-to-back on either side of a paragraph split:
The advertisements for Welcome to the Neighborhood quickly drew criticism from media commentators and civil rights groups, who deemed the series as racist and homophobic.
andWelcome to the Neighborhood drew sharp criticism from television critics and advocacy groups.
- first couple episodes should be first couple of episodes
- the Wrights claimed that the series portrayed a gay couple in a positive light and they were "devastated" that viewers would not witness this depiction. Either add a comma after "light" or, what I'd do, remove "they".
- MOS:'S "series' " should be "series's". This issue recurs.
- I'd take the Jay and Tony item and make it its own paragraph. Remove "However, the series never came to fruition." because this cannot be cited.
Sourcing and spot checks
[edit]One item I found.
- 8: This is the New York Times reference. It is used six times. One item needs fixing.
- Heavy promotion
- Cancellation announced 10 days before
- Confident shouldn't be in quotes. It is not a direct quote:
But two producers of the show, speaking publicly about the cancellation for the first time, say the network was confident it had the legal standing to give away a house as a game-show prize.
- Alleged Narnia cause for cancellation
-
When asked to respond to Mr. Kennedy's contention about "Narnia," Kevin Brockman, an ABC spokesman, said, "That's so ludicrous, it doesn't even merit a response."
- 11: GLAAD, FRC, and NFHA condemnation. (Wow, getting GLAAD and FRC on the same side of an issue is a baaaaaad sign)
- 29: The random selection seems to really want to learn German. This checks out for 720,000 viewers:
Die neue RTL-II-Dokusoap «Willkommen in der Nachbarschaft» startete um 21.15 Uhr in der ersten Folge mit 0,72 Millionen Zuschauern (2,8 Prozent).
- 31: "Never our intention" quote checks out to
RTL 2-Programmdikrektor Axel Kühn zur B.Z.: „Es war nie unsere Absicht, irgend jemanden zu diskriminieren.“
- 32: Rose d'Or nomination list.
I do see a few long-ish phrases that we share with the New York Times article, particularly "lifted longtime boycotts of the company" and "race, religion, and sexual orientation as factors in the awarding of a house". These probably should be reworded if possible to avoid close paraphrasing.
Images
[edit]There are two images, a title card and a still from the show. Because the show is such lost media, even the second image is unusually rare and worth critical value. (Interesting that the original producers put the open on YouTube...) Alt text is present.
