Nkosi Silkilel' iAfrika

[edit]

This was not a banned song at the time, as alleged in the article. 89.240.129.150 (talk) 10:55, 16 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I see that this is probably taken from the song author's website. He writes:
"Today that tune (Nkosi Sikelel' iAfrika) is South Africa's National Anthem,
but at the time, it was under a "ban" by the Apartheid government".
Since the anthem was not officially banned, the wording is somewhat ambiguous, and he puts the word ban in quotation marks, one assumes he is suggesting the song Nkosi Sikilel' iAfrica was banned from being played on the radio.
This may be the case. The anthem was in fact a church hymn and sung in many churches across the country, although it was also used by a variety of anti-apartheid groups, including the ANC. 89.240.129.150 (talk) 11:04, 16 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
