Tricounty authority
[edit]I'm well aware that the township webpage says that it includes parts of three counties, but if that statement is to be included, it needs to be given more context. A township simply can't be part of three counties at once! Just check the county maps: Union County's Washington Township is located in the opposite corner, and there is no Washington Township in Delaware County at all. Nyttend 20:10, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
- Check this map and compare it with Image:Map of Delaware County Ohio With Municipal and Township Labels.PNG and Image:Map of Union County Ohio With Municipal and Township Labels.PNG. Seems to me that the parts in Union and Delaware Counties on the Wikipedia images match the highlighted areas on the township website. Nyttend 20:15, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
Three counties
[edit]Expanding on the above discussion from fourteen years ago, it appears to be completely correct that Washington Township is in three counties. I have cited the Ohio Supreme Court decision that permitted the city of Dublin to make this change in the 1990s. Furthermore, the most recent Census boundaries, available on TigerWeb, show townships named Washington, within the city of Dublin, in Delaware and Union counties, with the same FIPS code as the Franklin County township. The Census Bureau mentions Ohio's oddball township structure on page 17 of this PDF file ("Ohio is unique in that a township can legally exist as a governmental unit in more than one county"). As additional evidence, see on page 8 here that Delaware County holds elections for the township's officers, and on page 6 here that Union County holds elections for two separate Washington Townships ("Washington Twp Trustee Franklin Cty").--Ibagli (Talk) 14:26, 28 July 2021 (UTC)
