Wondering how to edit this U.S. County Entry?
The WikiProject U.S. Counties standards might help.

what's happened to maps showing county location in state?

[edit]

Up until maybe a few weeks ago (?), the page for each county showed the county in red located in a state map with all the counties shown in white with black borders, so you could see where the county is in the state. All of a sudden, this has vanished for a great many counties -- now there's only a red county on a plain white background, no other county lines, not even state lines, which is pretty much useless for seeing where the county is in relation to the other counties and the state as whole. This link shows what it used to be like-- https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/File:Map_of_Alabama_highlighting_Autauga_County.svg -- and this link shows what it is now: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Warren_County,_Pennsylvania

It's kind of bizarre, since this feature has been in the county entries forever AFAIK, and now, again I think in the last few weeks, it's gone. I haven't looked at all 3,243 counties, but I've seen that the maps still exist for some counties but are gone for many others. Erie County NY is shown properly, but Erie County PA is not; Multnomah County OR is shown, but Lane County OR is not. I don't think it's my computer -- just in case I turned off all extensions, but it made no difference. I'm using Chrome for Mac Version 116.0.5845.187 -- outdated, but my computer is limited to OS 10.14, and to get the latest version of Chrome I need 10.15, which would mean a new computer, which I can't afford. But I've been chugging along all this time with no possible updates, yet the maps have disappeared only recently.

So, does anybody have an idea what's going on? Thanks. Wlegro (talk) 01:49, 24 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
