Conflict of interest editing
[edit]Hello again @Wallygreennyc, and welcome back to Wikipedia. Per your username and your edits on this site [1], I'm assuming you are the article subject, but please comment on that. For context, please read these two links: WP:Conflict of interest and WP:An article about yourself isn't necessarily a good thing.
This is Wikipedia's article about you, not your article on Wikipedia. It is supposed to be a summary of WP:RS that are independent of you. A reporter once asked Jimmy Wales what he thought about the WP-article about him, and Wales replied "It’s as right as the media about me is right." And that is about the best you can hope for around here. This article is meant to be written from the perspective of NYT, National Geographic etc, not from what you (or your friends, employees, family etc) want people to read about you, that is what your websites and social media are for. Not being written by the subject is sort of the point of a WP-article. It goes for this article, Dennis Rodman and Kim Jong-un. If the NYT writes that you are in possession of nuclear weapons, this article will too.
So, please stop editing the article. If you wish, you can suggest changes, and link the WP:RS that supports them, here on this talkpage (I'm not saying it's perfect now, nothing on WP is, some of it stunningly not, but many of us try to improve the site). If other Wikipedians think they are reasonable suggestions, they may act on them at some point. It may not be very quick, almost everybody you encounter here has WP as a hobby.
I hope the above makes an amount of sense. If you are interested in contributing one or more images to the article, let me know, and I'll tell you about the process (in short, copyright rules are a pain in the ass). Ping to @Nick Moyes if you wish to comment. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 06:59, 3 April 2023 (UTC)
- FINALLY I FOUND THE REPLY RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY FACE! lol Ok i think i get this whole wiki thing. Thank you for the explanation just recently realized all the other messages didnt really understand them. In any case some of the things on the page are not true at all for example My dad had nothing to do with sending me to boarding school I didn't even live with my dad so that thats totally false and others as well but in any case after your explanation of what wiki is its fine. Too much headache for me to be thinking about this. Thanx again much appreciated Wallygreennyc (talk) 05:57, 5 April 2023 (UTC)
- @Wallygreennyc HAH! Thanks for replying and the chuckle. WP takes time and interest to learn, but you've begun better than many others in your situation. Well, apart from what you did to the other Wally Green's article.
- The NYT [2] says "Green’s father, who was born in Nigeria, tried to straighten out his son by sending him to boarding school there.", so that's what I was going by. Still, no source is perfect and I've tweaked the article per your comments/edits.
- Fwiw, you're mentioned in articles like Lafayette High School (New York City) and Rockstar Games Presents Table Tennis. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 17:36, 5 April 2023 (UTC)
- actually after figuring out the thread of comments I was like OMG what did i just do. So sorry about i was just super confused and i was like why are my pics associated with someone whose not me. Was really confusing but now I understand more about how this works and the volunteer work that you guys do. So sorry again and if you are ever in NYC beers on me! - Don't beat yourself up, it happens. The open nature of WP means that it's simple to edit "wrong", but it's just as simple to put things right again. This is a trial-and-error place. The trick is to be willing to talk to and try to understand others. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 08:19, 6 April 2023 (UTC)
- One more thing I ll share with you if it means anything the reason why i removed wife and kid is because when i was yournger i was into some really really bad stuff and did a lot of bad things. Im completely changed to someone who inspires and motivates others. I left that gang life aver long time ago and the only family i currently have is my wife and kid and sometimes people from your past cant come back to harm especially family members and thats the ONLY family I have so thats why you never hear about them or see them anywhere in any article or podcast or social media.THey made lots of mistakes in the NYT Article but gang members dont read the NYT but when i saw it on here it worried me a bit. Just wanted you to understand the reason for some of my edits thanx again really appreciate you. Wallygreennyc (talk) 23:01, 5 April 2023 (UTC)
- @Wallygreennyc Fair enough, I removed it. WP:DONTBEADICK is as good a rule as any... And there's WP:BLPKIND too. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 07:51, 6 April 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you appreciate you and thank you for teaching me a bit about Wikipedia. Appreciate it! Wallygreennyc (talk) 04:34, 11 April 2023 (UTC)
- @Wallygreennyc: Hi there. One thing you can do if you want to improve this article is add a photograph if yourself (if you wish). There currently exist photos of you on the Internet however they cannot be used since none of them fit are copyright free (ish or other appropriate licenses licenses) criteria. If you want provided you can upload a photo provided you own the copyright and I'll be happy to explain how it works. Regards Spy-cicle💥 Talk? 15:33, 11 April 2023 (UTC)
- Way ahead of you, see my first comment in this thread. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 15:51, 11 April 2023 (UTC)
