Article creation

[edit]

It seemed to me that the subject matter jusfified treatment at the length I give it, but I had an ulterior motive for creating this article. As things stood a couple of days ago, Wikipedia implied on balance that ‘negative income tax’ was the official name for the wage subsidy when in fact it’s an alternative name for UBI. The confusion was hard to remove so long as the wage subsidy itself received almost no mention.

The American authors I cite make no mention of Pigou’s earlier work (which is understandable – his book is unreadable), and Atkinson makes no reference to any earlier proposals of the wage subsidy, though he’s at pains to articulate the distinction between his ‘participation income’ and UBI.

The article is written in British English, but I wouldn’t seek to impose that on subsequent editors.

Terminology is a more serious concern. The literature is mostly written in a national context, making reference to local institutions (eg. EITC). There is some risk that I will have misunderstood something, but a more serious one that I’ll have presented things in an anglocentric way. Any changes which make the presentation more generic will be appreciated.

I also created a page for Participation Income which redirects to Wage Subsidy.
