- Oppose move - In November 2008, an editor moved this article from "Wadi Allaqi" to "Wadi Alalaqi" without discussion, on the grounds that "Wadi Alalaqi" was the correct name for this place based on Arabic pronunciation. However, a Google search showed that "Wadi Allaqi" has 13,500 Ghits, while "Wadi Alalaqi" has only 264, which indicated that the accepted name for this place in English in "Wadi Allaqi". Because of this, I requested that the page be moved back, and it was. I believe that the article should stay where it is, at "Wadi Allaqi", but those who believe otherwise can make their arguments here. Beyond My Ken (talk) 17:08, 29 January 2010 (UTC)

Location
[edit]I do not think the coordinates are correct. Imho almost everything here is wrong. According to these coordinates Wadi Allaqi is situated in the Northern Sudan, south of Abu Hamad. In the article it is supposed to be somewhere in Egypt, south of Aswan in the middle between Aswan and Sudanese-Egyptian border. But... there is the article about Berenice Panchrysos https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Berenice_Panchrysos However in the Italian version (https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berenice_Pancrisia) they say Berenice Panchrysos is "located in the north-eastern desert of Sudan , just below the twenty-second parallel, near the gold mines of Wadi Allaqi in Nubia" On the other hand - there is map: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/6/61/Mapa_Aniba_Baixa_Nubia.gif And there is Wadi Allaqi on this map. So where the hell is Wadi Allaqi and where is Berenice Panchrysos? Titus Atomicus (talk) 02:06, 19 November 2016 (UTC)
- I'm not sure but I found this: " Site # 3: Wadi Allaqi Wadi Allaqi, the largest wadi in the south of Egypt’s Eastern Desert. It is an extensive drainage system; the length of the main Wadi Allaqi channel being about 250 km, 200 of which is in Egypt and approximately 50 in the Sudan..." (http://whc.unesco.org/en/tentativelists/1810/)
and Berenice Panchrysos existed in the Roman period in Sudan http://www.trismegistos.org/geo/detail.php?tm=4829 ... https://pleiades.stoa.org/places/40080 (UTC)
http://awmc.unc.edu/awmc/applications/alacarte/?pid=40080
But here it mentions that Wadi Allaqi was in Berenice Panchrysos Level C (talk) 02:49, 19 November 2016 (UTC)
OK, but the coordinates are still totally wrong.
It seems Wadi Allaqi starts somewhere below Halayb Triangle in Sudan but its mouth is in Lake Nasser south of Aswan. I did check on my paper map and I can confirm this.
So I am removing the coordinates. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Titus Atomicus (talk • contribs) 11:19, 19 November 2016 (UTC)
