John Cena

I saw his entrance on youtube and his name plate looked like this, "*Champion John Cena". I was wondering why there was an asterisk before champion when it should be "WWE Champion". 76.110.82.251 16:19, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

Even though this has nothing to do with the page I will answer it. That is not an asterisk it is the WWE's official logo. They do that in every game.

Just to clarify, I have the game and it is actually an asterix, not the WWE logo. Europe  glennb28  t/ 14:12, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

It does have to do with the page. I'm talking about SVR 08 right? 76.110.82.251 21:55, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

Anyone?

Does anyone know when they are going to put the official roster on www.svr2008.com? 75.8.53.7 01:59, 24 September 2007 (UTC)Kevin Thorn

It's obvious anyone here doesn't know other than THQ themselves. And why would you want to see it on the official website when it's already been released? Regardless, the talk page should be used only when issues are raised about the article. You have any other non-related questions, visit a forum.--The Scourge 05:26, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

Roster List missing many

matching it from the one on the THQ site [1], the roster on the page reflects that of the DS version and is not the complete roster. please update! Lynx Raven Raide 00:33, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

Sorry that's all of them IGN posted the real roster and there is ONLY 42 wrestlers and there is 42 there. Sorry it is kind of a dissapointing roster. Fresh Prince Carlton 01:34, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

RANDOM.....Anyways, I don't get it. Fresh, how come THQ's Roster means less than IGN's Roster? Just wondering Ladder4321 03:42, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

That's what I am kind of angry about, why is there so few tag teams and ECW wrestlers. I know the tag team champs will be the Hardy Boyz, but thats about it for knowing about tag teams. Also, WHEN WILL THE ARTICLE BE UNLOCKED!!! 65.114.182.66 18:13, 25 September 2007 (UTC) Edit: This is Fresh Prince Carlton, I'm just at another PC that is why my IP is different —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.114.182.66 (talk) 18:17, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

I think that the article should remain semi-protected so random people can't come on and screw everything up. I just cleaned up the roster a little bit and made it easier to read. Everything was squished together before. I also seperated the playable from non-playable characters. Hiphopchamp 15:19, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

Looks like it's locked again. I'd expect it to. So I guess Bobby is really on ECW in this game. I noticed that the roster is from when ECW first started in '06 because the roster looks like around Christmas time '06 24.128.149.204 20:30, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

Moved Bobby Lashley back to ECW

On the IGN countdown it shows Bobby Lashley as a ECW superstar. Leave him there PLEASE!!!! Fresh Prince Carlton 21:08, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

Randy Orton's Entrance was on ECW, and he isn't on the ECW Roster. We should just leave the people on whatever show (Most likely show) until the game comes out and we can check. Ladder4321 22:29, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

That doesn't make sense at all. How was Randy Orton's entrance on ECW. He was never on the show, and everything on that roster is pre-draft. You should know that the rosters in the past games are always around September-January based. And the entrances are based around just after the draft. 24.128.149.204 00:54, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

They chose the arena. They could put Umaga's entrance on ECW, it doesn't mean he's on ECW. 76.110.82.251 02:15, 14 October 2007 (UTC)

If any of you have played the demo released on the Xbox or other systems you would see in Lashley's background the RAW symbol. He is on RAW, nothing, especially CAPS AND EXCESSIVE EXCLAMATION POINTS!!!11one! Can do about it Swanton Bomber 15:45, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

Got rid of garbage wrestlers

Someone put unconfirmed wrestlers on article. I have the text saved, so I just put it back there. The save always stays up-to-date. I don't know why people do this, they must be in denial because of the small kind of not up-to-date roster. Or they have no life, nothing better to do and go and vandalize things like Wiki articles all the way up to buildings and property. GET A LIFE YOU VANDALIZING A$$ES!!! Fresh Prince Carlton 01:08, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

Bobby Lashley should be placed on the RAW brand for WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW 2008. After all he was drafted to RAW early enough for the game designers to put him on RAW. 15:02, 2 November 2007 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 4.157.104.53 (talk)

Hardcore Holly

Hardcore Holly is in the game, but only on the Playstation 2 version. Also, as the game uses the rosters after the 2007 WWE Draft, Holly will probably be on the SmackDown roster. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rfcucl1972 (talkcontribs) 14:51, 28 September 2007 (UTC)

Hardcore Holly is in SVR 2008, but exclusively on the DS roster. He might also be on the PS2 version, but we will find out when the game ships in Nov. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ferrari-gt (talkcontribs) 21:45, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

That could be right. It's not the first time the IGN rosters have been incorrect. Here's one hoping for said occurrence at least. --Kaizer13 05:49, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

Hardcore Holly isn't on the PS2 version. I know this for a fact as i bought it yesterday. 91.105.159.79 13:44, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

There, we found out when the game shipped in November. --Kaizer13 13:50, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

Roster problems

The wrestlers are confirmed: but has it been confirmed they will appear on those brands in the game? If not, the roster should be changed back to just a general listing (until the game comes out). Just because someone is on a certain brand for WWE now, doesn't completely mean he or she will be on that brand when the game actually comes out. The game comes out in a little over a month, but that doesn't justify original research in the article. RobJ1981 16:46, 28 September 2007 (UTC)

I like that idea. A general list would be better so that no one complains until after it comes and and everything is confirmed. Either that, or we should add a line that says the Superstars may not be on the correct show/brand at the moment and it will be confirmed when the game is released. Ladder4321 02:31, 29 September 2007 (UTC)

Roster problems 2

I agree, and have been saying so for the past couple of weeks now. Another little question, if Bobby Lashley is going to be on Raw, then why is he on the front cover, along with a Raw superstar (Cena) & a SmackDown superstar (the Undertaker)? Lashley will be the default ECW Champion in the game, and the rosters will not be as up to date as they are on the listings here. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rfcucl1972 (talkcontribs) 17:31, 28 September 2007 (UTC)

Sorry, IGN says Bobby is on RAW and before the draft Snitsky was on RAW then he was moved to ECW were he changed his persona to a crazy guy, then he was thrown back on RAW. Fresh Prince Carlton 21:53, 28 September 2007 (UTC) d

I think we should just have the roster listed like it is with every other wrestling game and that's in alphabetical order, because look at last years game, the champions were up to date to Booker T & Edge being World & WWE Champion respectivly which was The Great American Bash at the latest, yet Kurt Angle & Daivari who had been on SmackDown! from January (in Angle's case until June, Jerry Lawler even says on Angle's commentary "Kurt Angle's gone from Raw, to SmackDown! to ECW") and Nitro had been on RAW since May, he was even listed as I.C Champion and again the commentary reflects that, so if they had time to change the commentary I'm sure they can change the background.220.235.118.203 03:38, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

God, just go the the screenshots of the rosters that people have taken when they were testing the game... Or that video that exposed the McMahons n JBL in the game... Look at the background and then you guys can be sure! Greyglue 22:02, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

Matches

What are the matches for this game...??? please tell me Dom10194 29th September 1.22

ECW Extreme Rules match, 20 minute Iron Man match (no other minute selection), Last Man Standing, and a few others have been confirmed, but more are to come to the conformation list. Fresh Prince Carlton 13:03, 29 September 2007 (UTC)

Will they have alternate costumes in this game like they did on Wrestlemania 21 for GC? im kinda pissed off about Candice and Mickie's costumes. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.74.9.8 (talk) 14:02, 29 September 2007 (UTC)

Nonpoint

Get nonpoint out, because there has been no confirmation nonpoint is in the game. the "reference" that's attached to it says there is a POSSIBLE involvement with the game. Until that POSSIBLE becomes a ABOSOULUTELY, it should be off the list. Lex94 17:00, 29 September 2007 (UTC)

Cory says that they've re-animated a lot of moves

"XTREME!

has the swanton bomb been re-animated

-- Xtreme_rko

Yes, the Swanton Bomb has been re-animated. The impact of the finisher looks great too! We've updated a lot of moves and we will continue to do so each year. There is no doubt that you guys will be able to notice a big difference this year in all of our new navigational and move animations. We've made some big changes!"

That was from IGN* - http://ps3.ign.com/articles/823/823782p2.html

So yeah, should we add that they've re-animated a lot of the moves for the new game? Something like this - "For SmackDown VS RAW 2008, they've re-animated a lot of the moves in the game such as the Swanton Bomb, so that they look more devastating." Something like that? Ladder4321 17:30, 29 September 2007 (UTC)

Doesnt really need to be noted in my opinion, just the major updated or new features should be in the article. Don.-.J 19:18, 29 September 2007 (UTC)

Ok, after seeing all the new videos on IGN, it seems that they've re-animated nearly all of the finishers. I think that's notable! They've never done this before either, it was always just like 5. This time, it's like a bunch more. Consider adding my sentence from my previous post on this topic! Ladder4321 21:33, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

Finally, HBK stomps the ground more than 4 times when he tunes up... Seems its been 4 times in every game... Now its 6 :D!!! Greyglue 22:04, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

IGN

i'm getting really pissed off about IGN confirming this and confirming that. at the end of the day, it's THQ who are making the game, and its smackdownvsraw.com that will confirm everything that is needed to be confirmed. Lashley will be on ECW in the game. If he's not, I'll get rid of my Wikipedia account. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rfcucl1972 (talkcontribs) 12:38, 30 September 2007 (UTC)

well they have always been right before. IGN didnt really confirm anything they just used the RAW arena for his entrance becaue thats the show hes on at the moment. I dont know exactly how it works, but wouldnt IGN have seen what brand each wrestler was on when they tested the game. Don.-.J 22:00, 30 September 2007 (UTC)

IGN is in direct connection with THQ. THQ tells IGN what to tell the people. IGN has to pay money to THQ to get info from them, same with Gamespot and other websites. Whatever IGN says, it came straight from the cats (THQ) mouth. Fresh Prince Carlton 23:55, 30 September 2007 (UTC)

Champions

Hu are the champs gonna be on the game? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.142.126.242 (talk) 19:50, 30 September 2007 (UTC)

Well...I'm pretty sure it's this -

 • WWE Champion - John Cena
 • Intercontinental Champion - Umaga
 • World Tag Team Champions - The Hardyz
 • Women's Champion - Melina
 • World Heavyweight Champion - Edge (Possibly The Undertaker)
 • United States Champion - Montel Vontavious Porter, MVP
 • WWE Tag Team Champions - Batista & Rey Mysterio
 • Cruiserweight Champion - Chavo Guerrero
 • ECW Champion - CM Punk/Lashley/Nitro (Either one is possible)

And don't edit my posts, person who did. I noticed that! Ladder4321 22:31, 30 September 2007 (UTC)

I seriously doubt Punk will be ECW champ. He didnt win it until like 4 weeks ago.LifeStroke420 15:27, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, I'm not really sure. I saw on IGN.com, a picture of CM Punk as champion VS Lashley but it was season mode, so it might be wrong. I changed what I said too* Ladder4321 20:55, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

Lashley, regrettably, I think must be the ECW champ, being featured on the box art and all. Not a big surprise that MVP is US champion though, they must have removed his, err, lunatic murderer predecessor. BALLIN. --Kaizer13 20:40, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

 • Im sure Nitro is ECW champ, because Ive seen a screenshot of Nitro (yes, his name is Nitro still) walking to the ring as ECW Champion... Unless this screen was taken after the player had already won ECW Championship availability (like in 2007 you needed to win the belt in the game before you could switch champions), this is good proof that Nitro is da champ, n HEY! Dont call the Rabid Wolverine a lunatic murderer... Call him a drugged up brain damaged murderer :P It was on the news, he screwed up his brain with all the effing headbutts Greyglue 21:52, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

John Morrison or Johnny Nitro?

--KingOfDX 03:00, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

Johnny Nitro is more likely. He changed gimmick in like July or August, didn't he? Ladder4321 05:07, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

Nitro is indeed more likely. It was July when his name changed I believe. RobJ1981 05:17, 1 October 2007 (UTC)
IGN has him released as Nitro, I've even seen the entrance. It may be changed by the 13th, but who knows? Swanton Bomber 15:47, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

Batista and rey?

Why are batista and rey tag champs they havent been champs for ages? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.159.107.251 (talk) 16:44, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

That's because the other champs were either fired or are unemployed and Matt Hardy and MVP won the titles too late. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.210.229.135 (talk) 17:37, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

It's because DND isn't in the game, and neither are any tag teams from SD!. That sucks though, I'm a bit dissapointed with the no DND or Londrick. I just hope downloadable wrestlers will include them. Then again, I'll probably settle for the PS2 version which I'm not even sure of, has that feature. Ladder4321 21:32, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

...Batista and Rey... Seriously, there is something wrong with this picture. Oh maybe its the fact that they havn't been tag champs since 2005 or 2006. Welshy1791 03:07, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

Batista & Rey Mysterio

Just to clarify further. Since these two, MNM, Kendrick & London, Deuce & Domino and very recently, MVP and Matt Hardy have held the titles. MVP and Matt Hardy won it too late for the game to recognise this, and MNM, Kendrick & London and Deuce & Domino don't (at this stage) appear to be in the next game. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rfcucl1972 (talkcontribs) 20:59, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

God, how long ago were they champs? It's pathetic that they don't have any 2 WWE Tag Team champs more recently than them in the game. No Mercury, no London or Kendrick, or Deuce or Domino? & too lazy to make Matt Hardy & Pansy have them? Joey368 21:06, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

Are you kidding?? MNM, London & Kendrick and maybe Deuce & Domino... they aren't new! MNM were in the last game and Londrick should of been. This 24/7 mode better be worth it coz the roster is pathetic. WeLsHy 00:30, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

Roster list formatting?

Why is is always being reformated? Why is it back in tabula form and {{col}} taken out? It makes it a lot worse for editing for sure! Can you please vote or stick to a specific standard. Govvy 08:29, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

I agree, one format should be on the article, instead of it changing. But in any case: the roster is original research when it comes to brands. I highly doubt there is a source/sources that clearly show which brand everyone is on. Some have been confirmed: while a majority havent. We can't just assume they will be on the brand they are currently with (on WWE shows), as that's unsourced original research and speculation. RobJ1981 19:35, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

heh, I know all of that, been reading all above and beyond! I just want people to stick to one format instead of changing it back and forth! Which is kinda annoying everytime I visit the article to see the updates! Govvy 08:39, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

I don't see why there should be really short lists for the commentators and referees. Maybe they should be converted to prose. I also don't think non-playables should be listed. --Jtalledo (talk) 12:11, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
I agree with that as well. People just add all that cruft just because it's people in the game. In my view, the playable list should be the only thing listed for roster (for this article, as well as all other wrestling games). RobJ1981 12:51, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

24/7 mode

Ign confirmed that in 24/7 is 2 roads one is taking a superstar to the hall of fame(you can't take the ecw wrestlers threw it though except john morrison)or take the gm(general maneger)road where you choose from tommy dreamer, teddy long,or johnathon couchman and you run eather raw, smackdown,or ecw-and run the whole program. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 141.151.214.184 (talk) 21:55, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

That sounds awesome, but it can't make it into the article without a link to that info. Do you have one? Hiphopchamp 21:12, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

now that the game's been released in Europe, the above statement has been proved to be true. 91.105.159.79 13:51, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

24/7 mode

[1]

I believe we should take excerpts from this and put in various points including:

 • 24/7 Mode as a Superstar.

When you select the option you'll be able to start a career as a Superstar or created character. If you choose your created brawler, you'll start with your minimum attributes and begin working your way up the ladder through skill training. Choose to be an established character, and you'll be able to start with the steam the wrestler already has or from scratch to build your own dynasty.

 • You can't take an ECW Superstar (CM Punk, Elijah Burke, etc.) through 24/7 mode. Worse? You can't take an ECW Superstar who swapped shows (i.e. Sandman, Bobby Lashley, etc.) through the new career mode either with the exception of Johnny Nitro on Raw

19 available wrestlers. The mode kicks off with your Superstar meeting Vince in the middle of an empty arena and him challenging you to become a legend and make it to the squared-circle for that awe-inspiring event known as Wrestlemania. From there, you adjourn to your new home away from home -- the WWE Locker Room.

On a bench is the latest issue of WWE Magazine (where you can check out what the other Superstars are saying about your feud), your cell phone contains e-mails -- some packing voice work -- that keep you up-to-date on backstage opportunities as well as who hates you, the calendar is where you manage your daily schedule, and your laptop keeps track of the WWE Shop, the Power 25 and your health.

There are four days of activities outside of your respective program but each choice will come with its own set of positive and negative elements

This give-and-take is spread out over training exercises -- nifty mini-matches where you're given a goal such as completing a set number of taunts or Ultimate Control Grapples to better your stats -- skill improvement training that costs money but will teach you mic moves and heat-gathering abilities that will lead to bonuses in your daily events, and the events -- autograph signings, trophy dates, etc. -- themselves.

No, you won't be able to roam the halls at your leisure, but there are a handful of cutscenes that have your superstar walking into the ladies locker room, cutting promos -- occasionally, you get to choose your response -- and dealing with your fellow Superstars

 • As A General Manager
 • Choose if you want to be:
 • Theodore Long on SmackDown
 • The Coach on Raw
 • Tommy Dreamer on ECW -- yeah, even though you can't wrestle as any of the ECW guys in 24/7, you can book them and use them in the GM part.

From there, you'll have a private meeting with Mr. McMahon on his jet, and he'll basically tell you to take your brand to the top or look for another job. Of course, Vince says all of this in that gravely growl of his so it sounds more intimidating.

The mode ramains exactly and relatively the same including more new feuds which can be tracked in WWE Magazine along with trades and the health of your crew. Basically, it's a slick version of last year's model -- except that you can now put your boys through the paces on their off days.

Just like in the Superstar portion of 24/7, GM allows you to put your performers through training exercises, skill improvement and events. It's a good way to make your roster more durable, popular and better wrestlers while making you an extra buck or too.

Obviously, there's a lot to 24/7 mode. On the single-player side, you'll be able to track your skill progression, morale and progress to Legend status while being a GM will have you balancing the books and trying to push your faces and heels in the most appropriate way. Succeed, and you can take your earnings to the WWE Shop and unlock Legends, belts, move sets and more.

Bobby Lashley

Last year Johnny Nitro was on the RAW roster list, even though he was on SmackDown in the game. The website and IGN are going to have the wrestlers on their most current brand, not necessarily the one they are actually on in the game. Thats great fine and dandy but the problem is that Wikipedia is NOT a Game Guide. We are not to contain any non-notable information or guides of any kind. You also need to add a reliable source as Wikipedia cannot take your word to verify claims. -- bulletproof 3:16 18:16, 12 November 2007 (UTC)

Arenas

Someone needs to find a source for the list of arenas in the game before they put them back onto the article. Hiphopchamp 14:46, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, either that or we should add that they are the likely arenas for the game considering the past games' pattern. Ladder4321 21:15, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

WWE Download

I have read before that we will have downloadable content for the Playstation 3 and X-Box 360, what kind of downloadable content can we expect?

-- monkeyskull33

Hey "monkeyskull33." I don't know where you heard we have downloadable content, but that rumor is not true. As I mentioned in a previous answer, the online portion of our game will be relatively similar to last year with some minor improvements.

GO to the official website and it has a poll about the downloadable content with arenas , roster updates , new storylines , attire , music and the list goes on .november 9th yer —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bencrossley (talkcontribs) 16:47, 30 October 2007 (UTC)

ECW Legends and Secret Characters

Okay I'm not positive if this is a legit source but at:

http://www.psu.com/Smackdown-vs-Raw-2008-Interview--a0001496-p2.php

The first question on that page that they ask them is what ECW bring to the game and the THQ rep says that it brings Extreme Rules and ECW Legends such as Tommy Dreamer, Terry Funk, and Sabu. Direct Quote:

"PSU: What new features have been brought in with the addition of the ECW brand?

THQ: In addition to the aforementioned ECW Extreme Rules Match, players can expect a full on ECW invasion in WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2008. We’ve not only added a number of never-before-seen ECW Superstars and arenas to the series, but also ECW-specific storylines in 24/7 Mode. In fact, the tribe of extreme has even hijacked our Legends roster with the inclusion of Tommy Dreamer, Terry Funk and my personal favorite, Sabu."

Also recently there has been a Game Expo in Australia called Armageddon where they has the full game up on display for people to play now while the person(iEddict) was there(as it was not me) he took a bunch of pictures and a video tape showing the whole Roster and the new separate group called "ECW Legends". Along with the whole roster it showed 3 secret Characters: Shane McMahon, Mr. McMahon, and JBL. With the McMahon's being on the Raw brand while JBL was on the Smackdown brand, theses three were shown on the playable roster but locked and each in wrestling gear, as Vince "Mr." McMahon is in his muscle shirt.

iEddict's leaked thread with the video on it: http://boards.ign.com/wwe_smackdown/b6546/152126418/p14

Proof in these pictures of ECW Legend Group: http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f306/grave_nightmare/sabukq4.jpg?t=1192408263 http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f306/grave_nightmare/funkqw0.jpg?t=1192408222

Video Proof of the WHOLE roster: I do not think this is fake at all: http://www.dailymotion.com/Eddict/video/5402860

I think this is some pretty legit information as it even proves Tommy Dreamer as an ECW Legend. 216.15.71.127 01:12, 16 October 2007 (UTC)

Update the Roster

{{editprotected}} It has now been confirmed by pictures taken from the game located at this link > http://caws.ws/forum/index.php?showtopic=168139that JBL has been added to the Smackdown! roster as an unlockable. Also that Vince McMahon is an unlockable for the RAW Roster. Also that there is a new section of superstars, ECW Legends which would seperate Terry Funk and Sabu from the regular WWE legends.

I removed the match list. We needn't list every possible match in the game. It's just another large, cluttered list. --Jtalledo (talk) 00:09, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

Two questions

1) why is the mode list innecsary? 2) why the makers couldn't add missing wrestlers like Duce and Domino? —Preceding unsigned comment added by InfoLove (talkcontribs) 20:33, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

This isn't really the place to ask for this, but I'll try not to be a cunt like some of the other people who answer. 1, because it's...I dunno. Some random Wikipedia reason that cannot be explained in laymen's terms. 2, mainly because Yuke's are lazy nuggets who don't even bother to check the roster for any updates since last year. Oh, and because they've been paid. You know how it is. --Kaizer13 07:40, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

Tommy Dreamer is a Legend

Official proof by IGN: http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/828/828479p1.html

Don't mean to say I told you so but.....I won't. That means we have to edit the roster. 216.15.71.127 02:47, 19 October 2007 (UTC)

I changed it. I think it's kool that they put him as a legend. Next year should have Raven, though it is highly unlikely. Ladder4321 06:44, 19 October 2007 (UTC)

That won't put him in until he leaves TNA, most likely. Hiphopchamp 07:58, 19 October 2007 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.14.98.86 (talk)

True. A lot of TNA guys would be kool in the SmackDown! games. Thing is, most of them are just gonna be in the TNA IMPACT game. That game is by Midway and I don't think it'll be as good as SvR. Ladder4321 20:28, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

This is just a opinion but who else agrees that tommy dreamer should be on the ECW roster and someone like sandman who is on the regular roster should be a legend. I mean its obvious that tommy dreamer is still wrestling on the current roster and sandman has already left wwe so shouldn't they be switched? But, then again, since when was sandman good enough to be a legend? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.193.202.40 (talk) 00:08, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

There have been videos showing Vince, Shane and JBL as unlockable characters, as well as possibly Maria. The videos look real to me. But, hey, in the future, try not to post questions like that here. It's in the incredibly fascist Wikipedia guidelines, so unless you're lucky and get a response from me, you'll get your head chewed off by asking for stuff like this. Consult the Gamefaqs board (even though the users there are even bigger assholes likely to chew your head off even more) in the future. Thanks! --Kaizer13 04:32, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

There is no more title match mode. It is now streamlined into the superstar select screen along with selecting your manager. If you select a champion (ex. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Why the Roster should be Prose, not a List

 • Vandalism protection. Academic prose is generally more difficult to vandalise in the random things that happen to this article.
 • Informative value. A list format does not allow for any description of the characters. I have an interest in video games (as a WP:VG article assessor) but I do not get any informative value from the current roster section.
 • Manual of style. Per Wikipedia:Embedded list, lists such as the current roster list are bad.

Also, I would like some feedback from the more established editors on the quite radical edits I made a few days ago. What did you think of them? Feel free to disagree, even if that means disagreeing with Wikipedia policy. User:Krator (t c) 22:42, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

I'd love for it be in prose, as I dislike lists, but given its length and its context in the article, I don't see how it could be done any other way. --Jtalledo (talk) 00:23, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
I agree with most of the edits, particularly the removal of the match types lists. I'm not sure some other users agree though. --Jtalledo (talk) 01:04, 28 October 2007 (UTC)

I'll agree only if you tell me what prose means in lamens terms. Thank You!!!! Fresh Prince Carlton 02:40, 28 October 2007 (UTC)

Listen!

Look there are a few thing sI consider are wrong about this page. The first thing is that I think the mode list should be included. Also I think the roster should be diivded by brand. Please undo some things like, for example one thing that playable championships or at least let us see i t to see if it's good enough!!! FranK 17:11, 28 October 2007 (UTC) ——

There is no confirmation of what brands they are on, so just assuming they are on a certain brand is speculation. When the game comes out, then they can be sorted by brand. As for playable championships: that leans towards game guide and fancruft. Go to a site that specializes in all information, as Wikipedia certainly isn't the place for every detail. Wikipedia isn't meant as a buyer's guide. Look at IGN or Gamespot if you aren't sure if the game is "good enough" or not. RobJ1981 20:52, 28 October 2007 (UTC)

On the smackdownvsraw.com roster page, they have the people seperated by show. Look there for REAL confirmations Ladder4321 03:03, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

That doesn't confirm anything either. They're just going to have them on whatever brand they currently appear on in current WWE storylines, not necessarily what brand they are on in the game. Last year on the game's website they had Johnny Nitro on RAW but in the game, he was on the SmackDown roster. The only way to confirm whatever brand everyone is on is to wait until the game comes out. Bmg916Speak 11:23, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

Championship mode?

Uhh, the article states that SvR08 will reinstate the Championship title match mode? That was available in 07, and 06. Or wasn't it in the other versions for the other consoles last year? I wouldn't know since I didn't play them. In that case, it should be clearly stated in the article. --Kaizer13 13:23, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

This info i got from Amazon.com Product Features

 • The heart of the Smackdown! Series is the Season-Story mode with the addition of authentic Superstar VO and commentary.
 • For the first time ever in a WWE game, fans can compete online in head-to-head action.
 • New storylines with bigger double-crosses and over-the-top surprises.
 • Create a Championship Belt and then set up your own PPV to defend it. Be careful - lose a match and lose your Championship, as it will transfer to the other player's memory card!
 • New WWE Legends, including one of the all-time greats, Andre the Giant!

Is Andre included? This adds to my questions before... bye FranK 20:07, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

Sorry to keep bothering

Sorry to keep bothering but this new info is out there nad I didn't know if I should add it or not so I decided to run it with you guys:

~New Info~ (Thanks to 2_Damn_Dangerous):

 • Shelton Benjamin and Charlie Haas have been confirmed for the roster
 • Currently Rey Mysterio's overall rating is 92, Randy Orton is 93, and John Cena is a 97
 • Sandman enters through the crowd in his entrance
 • The ECW title is confirmed

Sorry to keep bothering but I got new info I jsut don't knwow if add it or not so I show it to you so you can evaluate if it's trust worthy or not i

 • Undertaker has a new Tombstone, Randy Orton has a new RKO
 • Sabu's moves have been put into the game (Triple Jump Moonsault), though Sabu himself is not confirmed
 • Rey Mysterio has 3 attires, they are black, white, and red
 • Sandman's, Taker's, and Orton's entrance is "spot on"
 • The HUD is still displayed
 • Loading screen display wrestler bios, the menu looks "amazing" and the main menu is listed: Play Now, Exhibition, Game Mode, Create Mode, XBOX Live, Option
 • JBL and Cole have been confirmed as announcers, as well as Styles and Tazz
 • The blood effects are much better

- Weapon System is more advanced, ECW Superstars are more vicious now once wielding a weapon...Some moves are, Stomping on your opponents head in between the folds of a steel chair. A Conchairto and more to come. Steel Steps are also being given improvement as you can now inflict moves such as Powerbombs, Facecrushers (most likely) onto the steps.

- Weapons you choose using the weapon "selection wheel" can be used with stuff like fire, barbed wire...So now you can actually choose to use a clean Barbed Wire Bat...or a Bat on fire. You can seriously kill your opponent using that. (No Pun Intended)

- Once bleeding, or being damaged by weapons, you can actually smack yourself in the head with a chair to give yourself momentum. lol.

- Your Superstar has 2 Main Fighting Styles, before Matches, you have the opportunity to choose one of those styles and fight in that style...

- The Right Stick is used while punching in corners to have power in the punches. The more worn out your opponent is while in a Submission hold, he wont be able to get out easily.

I don' remmber what site was it from but don't think it was too suspicious althought it was clearly non officalial, it wa as forum like thing. Please read it and check. Also I think the MAtch list is ok to be on the page becouse it's game info. thanks and bye FranK 20:18, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

Roster Question

71.29.36.131 16:02, 30 October 2007 (UTC) Shouldn't the official list of wrestlers in this article follow suit with what's actually listed on the game's official website, whether or not they are 100% confirmed? For example, the article lists a total of 50 wrestlers for the console game, while the official website only lists 49 slots and almost half those slots are filled with "?" symbols.

A few posts ago, someone said that we should follow in suit to the official website's announcements. Well, IGN receives official information on the SVR 2008 game directly from THQ. WWEBoffin0101 17:43, 30 October 2007 (UTC)

== Also, there's a video on YouTube which confirms that both JBL and Mr. McMahon are in the game. JBL is an unlockable for the SmackDown! roster and Mr. McMaho nis an unlockable for the RAW roster. However, still no news on Shane, and Tommy Dreamer is not, I repeat IS NOT a legend in the game.WWEBoffin0101 17:45, 30 October 2007 (UTC)

==== 75.117.120.23 22:54, 30 October 2007 (UTC) I never said it should follow suit, I asked if it should follow suit. My reason for asking was because I was thinking if this was a wrestling article about a WWE wrestler involved in a storyline or upcoming angle, people wouldn't post "spoilers" until it either played out on television or was mentioned on their (WWE) website. In this case, this is a forthcoming video game and I wasn't sure if it should play in the same manner (only releasing information as it's being released by THQ), on their website until the game is fully available to the public. Like there are plenty of reliable wrestling insider websites, they are plenty of reliable video gaming insider websites, but people still take the time to delete events out of an article if it's "insider" news that hasn't played out yet. Sorry for the confusion. It's not a big deal but I thought I would ask, since I notice there's a couple discrepancies between the Wikipedia article and what THQ lists on their website. I'm not saying anyone is wrong, just thought I'd throw that out there.

PL is confirm

Could someone confirm or deny the things I posted previously, specially the one where it syas that Bjenamin and Haas are inthe roster. Thanks FranK 00:21, 31 October 2007 (UTC)

Well according to the official website www.svr2008.com, they're not and due to the fact the games release in America is about 12 days away I highly doubt they will be on the intial roster, they may however be a downloadable wrestler. Shame really I was hoping Haas would be in there. 58.6.80.79 02:25, 31 October 2007 (UTC)

Jeff Hardy isn't Mentioned in the Roster List

Shouldn't he be there? Maybe a sentence like this - "Making a return to the SmackDown! video game series is Jeff Hardy, who has not been in a SmackDown! game since Shut Your Mouth." Ladder4321 05:25, 1 November 2007 (UTC)

Horrible Roster

Please change the roster back to the way it was yesterday! I mean, look at the SVR, the SVR 2006 and the SVR 2007 rosters, they look much better than a big, long and boring description about who is in and who is out. It was fine yesterday, so REVERT IT PLEASE! —Preceding unsigned comment added by WWEBoffin0101 (talkcontribs) 19:23, 1 November 2007 (UTC)

Game Questions Answered

Some of em, anyway... Well, Dreamer is NOT a legend, according to the SD! vs. RAW 2008 official website. Sandman is on RAW, same as Lashley, Johnny Nitro (not John Morrison) is on ECW, Jeff Hardy IS confirmed on RAW, alt. attires are involved, and downloadable content is going to be available most likely, seeing as the page has a pole on what people would like to download more, including Superstars/divas, weapons, arenas, alternate attires, and alternate storylines. Hope that helps a bit... Greyglue 20:35, 1 November 2007 (UTC)

It doesnt say anywhere on the website that Tommy Dreamer isnt a legend. IGN.com said he is one of the ECW legends along with Terry Funk and Sabu. Don.-.J 21:11, 1 November 2007 (UTC)

75.117.120.23 00:48, 2 November 2007 (UTC) -- Well the THQ site lists him part of the ECW roster (along with 4 other wrestlers from the ECW brand). His character isn't located in the in any of the legend boxes and seeing how Dreamer is a regular part of the WWE, it would be pretty lame to put him in a legend's box in my opinion. I mean if they are going to do that, they might as well throw Flair in their as well, since he's a hell of a bigger legend than Dreamer.

hey guys

I also say you should put the roster the way it was it's better in a lis than a text. please. --FranK 20:24, 1 November 2007 (UTC) PD: the eddie guerrero thing is tru and strange, you are right

I know! And who erased my post about it? Greyglue 21:17, 3 November 2007 (UTC)

PD 2

I think I was mistaken.. it was a sdvsraw info I took, I wish Hass could be in but he's not on wwe right now, Duece and Domino shoul've been in the game. FranK 20:27, 1 November 2007 (UTC)

here's thesource plis check info and tell me results:

The Amazon listing is incorrect. It's clearly describing the first SmackDown vs. Raw game:
 • The heart of the Smackdown! Series is the Season-Story mode with the addition of authentic Superstar VO and commentary.
 • For the first time ever in a WWE game, fans can compete online in head-to-head action.
 • New storylines with bigger double-crosses and over-the-top surprises.
 • Create a Championship Belt and then set up your own PPV to defend it. Be careful - lose a match and lose your Championship, as it will transfer to the other player's memory card!
 • New WWE Legends, including one of the all-time greats, Andre the Giant!
Superstar voice overs, online play, create a belt and create a pay-per-view were introduced in the first SmackDown vs. Raw title. Andre the Giant made his first appearance in this title as well. --Jtalledo (talk) 11:45, 3 November 2007 (UTC)

Release date changed again

I posted before about the official site changing the release date from 12 days to 6 or so weeks and was told that the 12 day countdown was a mistake but now just a few days later the site has changed it back to 9 days.

75.117.120.23 07:02, 3 November 2007 (UTC) -- The THQ website had a blip, when they listed the release days remaining as 42 days. They corrected it with the then-time of 11 days and some change. The current time of nine days and some change is correct seeing how it's the 3rd of November and the game is released on the 13th.

It's the 15th in Europe according to IGN.com Davnel03 10:43, 3 November 2007 (UTC)It's the 9th in Europe, not the 15th. IGN too has site errors. Davnel03 10:53, 3 November 2007 (UTC)

andre the giant??

Again, this refers to the first SmackDown vs. Raw title. Andre the Giant was "New" to the series in that title. --Jtalledo (talk) 11:47, 3 November 2007 (UTC)

Locking the page

It seems to me there are far too many changes to this page and moist of them are unnecessary especially in terms of the info. Would someone consider locking it until the games is released on Friday 9th. --Dangelo82 (talk) 12:09, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

As much as I hate doing that, I agree. There's just going to be a lot of edits without sources, and not even the main site or IGN can be trusted to give the correct information anymore. We're just gonna have to wait until the game is out and all is revealed. --Kaizer13 12:53, 3 November 2007 (UTC)

Countdown 2007

Is it me, or has anyone else noticed that the countdown ends 4 days before the game comes out? Maybe thats when they will expose the McMahons, JBL and Maria... :D Although, it does come out in Europe 4 days early...Greyglue 21:20, 3 November 2007 (UTC)

--75.117.120.23 22:23, 3 November 2007 (UTC) As I have stated a couple of times on this discussion, the time that THQ has on their site is correct. The time on their site is reflected for the North American (more specifically, U.S. EDT) debut of the game. Not the European, Asian or Australian release, but the North American release. At present the clock is at 9 days, 6 hours and some change...which means if we are counting that the clock as already been set for daylight savings time for the United States later tonight/early tomorrow morning then the game should technically be for sale Tuesday November 13th, at 12:01 a.m.

Article Problems

1st, the roster setup is disgusting... it should be a chart like is always has been. 2nd, put up the Match List, as a lot of people want to see it. 3rd... well, there is no 3rd... Greyglue 21:26, 3 November 2007 (UTC)

I pretty much agree with everything you said... even that 3rd thing (whatever it was). The roster has ALWAYS been in table form, why is some up tight people changing it then saying it stays?? Maybe I'll change it back myself. And where did the Match list go ?? PUT IT BACK YO! WeLsHy 11:11, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

Few Comnents

1) I will insist that you put the roster as list and that you add the match types. 2) I also wanna ask if you are completly sure that that the info I posted corresponds to Smackdown vs Raw, I it is so I am sorry for the confusion. 3) I also wanna apologise to GreyGlue becosue I edited the site to get tougether some of my posts and I hope I didn't erase yourse. If I did I am sorry. That's all I hope you forgive me for all the misunderstandings and confusing posts. A new thing and a repeated thing

I have several subjets to adress 1. I inssit that oyu leave the match list please 2. PLis put the roster the way it was(as a list) 3. Don't ignore what I mentioned above you just keep doing that and a lot of the poeple are asking the sam just do it! 4. Are Shane McMahon, Vincent McMahon, JBL as unlockable characters in the game? 5. I would you to add the championships available and the starting champions as in the Spanish version of the article

Thank you —Preceding unsigned comment added by InfoLove (talkcontribs) 00:28, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

No, as far was we could possibly know, Shane O'Mac, Mr. McMahon, and JBL are not unlockable. It isn't even proved by a reliable source that they exist in the game (The video that includes them may have been modified, but it does look very convincing). As I've said before, there is something fishy about the countdown, seeing it ends 4 days early, which may be when they expose the McMahons, JBL, and possibly Maria.

I agree with everything you've said, except for the match list. When I was about to buy 2007, I looked on the article and it really helped that the match list was included.Greyglue 00:48, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

That may be true, but the countdown clock is set for the USA release, so if the page is based on the USA release, then why have it stop for the European release. I already knew that it came out in Europe 4 days early, because I asked before and all I got was someone say that the page was for the USA release. Greyglue 23:56, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

Sabu, Tommy Dreamer and the Unfinished Countdown

According to the roster page on the official website, they are NOT legends, but they are ECW extremists. Also the countdown ends 4 days early, which shows that possibly 4 secret characters will be revealed, or to give us a hint that 4 secret characters are in the game, or the countdown ends as soon as the game is first released in Europe. PS: Doesn't the title of my post sound like a friggin Harry Potter book title? Greyglue 00:47, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

Eddie Guerrero lack of Respect

Did anyone else notice? The game comes out the same day Eddie Guerrero died two years ago, and he only gets a spot on PSP... WTF? Greyglue 00:50, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

Match Types or List?

I'd rather we have a Match Types section like on the SvR07 article. It won't be that long and it'll be informative. Anyone? Anything? Ladder4321 03:53, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

Match types are mentioned briefly as prose in the "Modes" subsection. --Jtalledo (talk) 23:33, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

They are mentioned, but they aren't really listed, and it only mentioned a few of the main events, not the different types like tag matches and 4,5 or 6 man battle royal. I agree with Ladder4321.Greyglue 23:53, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

Spanish Version

Guys, if you cant understand Spanish, at least look at the page to get an idea of how this article should look like, except in English. Every single thing on there has a citation, every individual superstar, match, and championship! (According to the Spanish page says Dreamer is ECW champ, but Im not sure if its citated.)Greyglue 23:23, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

That page looks awful. There's a bunch of "citation needed" notes and most of the page is comprised of lists. It's exactly how this article shouldn't be. Please review WP:MOS for style considerations. --Jtalledo (talk) 01:52, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

It seems lots of people like to read lists when it comes to things that belong in lists, NOT in paragraphs. And that page has about 100 or more citations, dont complain about a few missing citations. Greyglue 16:39, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

Some vague notion about "lots" of people "seeming" to like lists doesn't override established guidelines defined by WP:EMBED. Encyclopedia articles should primarily be comprised of prose. And you previously stated "everything" had a citation and I just pointed out that there were some citation needed tags. --Jtalledo (talk) 07:34, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

I agree

I agree with Greyglue. come on people want it do it already what are you wating for? —Preceding unsigned comment added by InfoLove (talkcontribs) 21:04, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Roster

What is with the roster, why isnt it a table or long list of Superstars instead of a description of whose returing and whose not in what etc. Masterofdestiny 03:23, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

See WP:EMBED:
Most Wikipedia articles should consist of prose, and not just a list of links. Prose allows the presentation of detail and clarification of context, while a list of links does not. Prose flows, like one person speaking to another, and is best suited to articles, because their purpose is to explain. Therefore, lists of links, which are most useful for browsing subject areas, should usually have their own entries: see Wikipedia:Lists (stand-alone lists) for detail. In an article, significant items should be mentioned naturally within the text rather than merely listed.
It wouldn't kill people to do a little reading. As a matter of fact, it might do you good. ;) --Jtalledo (talk) 04:27, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

UK & AU versions of the game?

Ok as if people didn't already know it the game's already released in the UK and in ausralia(sorry if i mispelled it) the game was released in both contries friday so why hasn't anyone put the official/known info on the page?

Mate, a aussie game hasn't been released, refer to the release dates on wikipedia. I am aware that it was to be released on 8 nov, but it was DELAYED to 15 nov, 2 days away from time of this writing Dingyv03 00:31, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

If the release date in Australia has really been delayed until the 15 of November then the date in the article should be changed. However, I have not been able to find any information the Internet that talks about a delay in Australia. --Credema 05:17, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

They are literaly screaming for it...isen't wiki 4 the people?? then do it añready and forget that silly code..it's ridiculous. Does anybody agree with me?. What do we have to do to get you guys to do it and break the rule just for once? Don't be so strict.

FranK 22:36, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

I agree.

If something improves an article it should be added, however it can also be argued that a list of the complete roster is not really needed. --Credema 05:15, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

71.29.38.87 22:52, 12 November 2007 (UTC) -- It depends on when your local retail store receives their shipment. I know one game store in my area has had it since Friday in back stock but can't put it on the shelves until Tuesday morning. I plan to get mine from Best Buy tomorrow, so I don't expect them to put it out until midday. Your best bet would be to just call whatever store you plan to get it from and ask if they have it in stock.

Boxart

Is there a reason someone changed to the boxart from PS2 to PS3? Both were from the same region, so there was no reason there (since I know people tend to switch to the NA boxart). I think it should be the Wii boxart, but you don't see me changing it for no reason. TJ Spyke 18:42, 12 November 2007 (UTC)

Everyone has their reason. You think it should be the Wii version because you're into that system. I personally think the PS3 version fits the article better since the series began as a PlayStation title, exclusive to the Sony platforms for quite some time, and it is the first in the series for the next gen Sony console. -- bulletproof 3:16 18:46, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
I have no problem with a Sony box, but there wasn't any reason to change it from the PS2 box to the PS3 box. If I were to change it to the Wii box, then no one could say anything since nobody said anything with this change. TJ Spyke 19:33, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
It shouldn't have been changed. There was nothing wrong with the original image. But then again, there's nothing wrong with the PS3 image. It just shouldn't be changed again. --Jtalledo (talk) 19:28, 12 November 2007 (UTC)

Current fiction tag

I don't think the current fiction tag should be on this article. It's a fighting game, not a Charles Dickens novel. The template states:

It may contain detailed information on the characters, plot, and ending of the work of fiction it describes.

There is no information on the "characters" if you want to call them that. That would imply there would be some motive, some actions of the "characters" that the text would provide. There is none. Plot? There is no central plot. The game's 24/7 mode has miniature storylines, but that does not constitute a plot. Similarly, with no central plot, there is no "ending". Most players will just playing exhibition matches and online matches again and again and again until the next game is released. I understand that some people might want to propagate the use of the {{current fiction}} template, but this isn't one of the articles to use it on. --Jtalledo (talk) 13:08, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for notifying me on my talk page. I tagged the article with the {{current fiction}} tag because videogames are generally considered fictional works and this game was recently released. I guess if the game has no central plot then it probably would not be considered fiction. Thank you for your explanation. I support your decision. --Pixelface 13:28, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
