Discussion of the mono issue
[edit]Through its entire history as an analog station, WNYS / WIXT / WSYR-TV broadcast monaural audio: first with the RCA TT-11, then with the Harris TV-10 transmitter. Shortly after the installation of Digital Centralcasting, the station provided a direct stereo feed to Time Warner Cable, but the over-the-air transmission remained monaural. The digital signal from the very first has been stereo, though most local news content tends to be mixed monaural with occasional stereo elements such as music.
As it happens, I wrote the referenced blog page concerning the original transmitter...

Now in mono!
[edit]Moving this to talk: WSYR is one of very few American television stations which still broadcasts in [[Monotone|mono]]. This can easily be detected when comparing it to stereo broadcasts, especially when using a [[surround sound]] decoder because the mono signal cannot be unfolded.
Looks to just be an equipment problem[1] which required the station's original transmitter (a 1960's vintage RCA TT-11) be pressed back into service to carry the analogue signal. I doubt this belongs in the article intro, as both subchannels are still stereo digitally and the analogue simulcast is going to be shut down this winter in any case. --66.102.80.212 (talk) 00:07, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

Height
[edit]The transmitter height is 402 meters? Are you kidding me!! I wanna see a picture of it! Gotta be the tallest one in New York not counting the city of New York. Daniel Christensen (talk) 08:45, 14 November 2009 (UTC)
