Merge

[edit]

Should WMV HD and VC-1 be merged? At the least, the two articles are not self consistent. The article WMV HD says it is now also called VC-1. The VC-1 article says Although VC-1 and WMV9 refer to the same codec technology, VC-1 is actually a superset of WMV9, containing more coding tools for interlaced video sequences than the original WMV9 codec, which concentrated on progressive encoding for computer displays. What about film soundtracks that never were 5.1?

[edit]

"WMV-HD conform videos feature a 5.1 surround soundtrack, which is encoded in WMA-9."

What about older films, whose theatrical release was in mono, stereo, or matrix surround? Does a "conforming" transfer require remixing the audio from the original multitrack source? --Damian Yerrick 01:51, 22 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, It should be merged.

[edit]

I definetly think it should be merged. WMVHD is the name of files encoded using VC-1. It should be merged.

No, It should not be merged.

[edit]

WMV-HD is the name of a disc format, containing Windows Media 9 High Definition video files on a DVD-ROM. The article needs some updating, as there are dozens of available titles (I have 12 titles myself). VC-1 discusses the SMPTE approved encoder... these are 2 different topics. Stripping DRM

[edit]

"The DRM on WMV HD can be stripped using Sidda and/or DRMCreep or drmdbg or drm2wmv. You can find more information at Doom9's Forum." Do you think this is appropriate to say on Wikipedia? Is stripping the DRM illegal in the US? (Please mirror reply on my talk page) Josh 19:41, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The "recommended configuration" is not good enough - I have a such a system, with a 6600GT and 1GB RAM, and I can't run 1080p. ··gracefool | 23:45, 25 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Wmvhd.jpg

[edit]

Image:Wmvhd.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Section "Movies on WMV HD DVD-ROM"

[edit]

This section needs to be deleted. It's not encyclopedic, it violates WP:Notability, and the movies on the list could have been any number of movies. And the "and more" at the bottom is totally inappropriate on wikipedia. So this should be deleted - which I will do myself in a week if no one responds. ~ GoldenGoose100 (talk) 10:36, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
