Complaint

[edit]

Why is the WCIV article on Wikipedia is semi-protected. The Wikipedia protection policy has gone too far, this is suppose to be The Free Encyclopedia not the unfree. Shkarter1985 (talk) 19:26, 3 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Because an IP user was continuously adding highly dubious slogans to this and dozens of other television show pages. There was (and remains) concern that these slogans are entirely fictitious, and being added to disrupt the quality of television show pages; at best, they are unsourced and unlikely. To prevent the disruption, the article was temporarily semi-protected. When possible, we prefer to target just the individual "offender", but, in this case, the person changes IP addresses regularly, and, after several months of the same behavior, has never once communicated with other editors. Note that once you become autoconfirmed (10 edits to regular pages and 4 days), you'll be able to edit it directly; alternatively, if you want to request an edit right now, you can do so here, on the talk page; finally, the protection will end in about 20 hours, so everyone will be able to edit it then. In essence, everyone is still free to edit the page, they just have to use an alternate method if they are unwilling or unable to create an account. Qwyrxian (talk) 21:32, 3 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, your redlinked username fooled me; you can already edit the page directly. Why the complaint? Semi-protection is the only way we have to protect pages from intentional disruption by people w/o named accounts. Qwyrxian (talk) 21:35, 3 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

An image used in this article, File:Wciv (2).png, has been nominated for speedy deletion for the following reason: All Wikipedia files with unknown copyright status

What should I do?

Don't panic; you should have time to contest the deletion (although please review deletion guidelines before doing so). The best way to contest this form of deletion is by posting on the image talk page.

  • If the image is non-free then you may need to provide a fair use rationale
  • If the image isn't freely licensed and there is no fair use rationale, then it cannot be uploaded or used.
  • If the image has already been deleted you may want to try Deletion Review
