Talk:Volleyball at the 2001 Mediterranean Games – Women's tournament
About footnotes
[edit]Hello @Significa liberdade:. All info is based on official FIVB documents. I think no need for footnotes. If you want I can send you via e-mails. I've found 2001 Mediterranean Games results documents physically from Turkish Olympics Committee. I cannot upload these documents due to copyright possibility. These documents created last days of the Games and these are photocopy of the original documents distributed to the Olympic Committees of all countries. Therefore I've reverted your edits. This is not like 2009 Games. It's too hard to find online footnotes. However I didn't request offical documents for 2009 Mediterranean Games. Therefore, I spent time for finding footnotes and that was not so hard because in 2009, internet had spreaded in worldwide unlike 2001.-- Sabri76'talk 11:22, 18 December 2024 (UTC)
- P.S. You can also see all game info in the archived link (tunisiaonline.com) at the bottom of the page. However tunisiaonline.com didn't mention about results of 2 or 3 games. Therefore official documents are confirming the reality of info and a good supplement for missing info. Please rest assured and trust me. I've been on wikipedia for years. i just had no experience with “draft”.--Sabri76'talk 11:27, 18 December 2024 (UTC)
- Hi, Sabri76! Footnotes help readers verify information. Further, articles should not rely solely on primary sources because these do not establish notability, which is required for the article to exist. Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 14:16, 18 December 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Significa liberdade:. I shared a page of the official document that you cannot find on the internet. This is from the physical archive of Turkish Olimpics Committee. You can delete it after seeing it because I don't know the status of such documents in terms of copyright rules. I agree, but why do I need a footnote when I have an official document? Also, with 3 exceptions, all the results are already on the tunisiaonline.com page, but it's necessary to search for the word “volley” in the search bar. All info can be seen in max. 5 minutes. When all the information is so clear, should I add the same source in each data?--Sabri76'talk 18:37, 18 December 2024 (UTC)
- @Sabri76: As Significa liberdade has already pointed out to you, articles need secondary sources to establish notability. Official records may be a true reflection of the results but don't establish that Volleyball at the 2001 Mediterranean Games is notable enough to have it's own article. Please also see WP:PRIMARY, item 5:
Do not base an entire article on primary sources, and be cautious about basing large passages on them
. --John B123 (talk) 22:37, 19 December 2024 (UTC) - I am uncertain about whether the specific document you've copied is copyrighted. Information about copyright would likely be included in the front of the booklet. Beyond that, I think it's relevant to remember What Wikipedia is not. While Wikipedia includes many pages similar to this one, it secondary sources cannot be found, the subject may not be notable enough for an article. - Significa liberdade & John B123 thanks, I've reverted my edits. I think finding secondary sources is not imposible and I think there's no doubt about notability.--Sabri76'talk 07:30, 20 December 2024 (UTC)
