Vizcaya - Bizkaia

[edit]

Well, it doesn't matter that the name of the province is Bizkaia in Basque. This is the English Wikipedia and name conventions should be applied. In the UNESCO World Heritage Sites list the name is Vizcaya Bridge, see the link. So that is the official name that should be used in Wikipedia, of course the Basque and Spanish names are shown. Please discuss the matter here and don't revert without ever giving reason. The same page says the Bridge is in the "Province of Bizjaia", if you can find me where "Bizjaia" is, I'll be so pleased. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.36.86.233 (talk) 16:22, 14 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with you that the name Biscay Bridge is quite correct in English, but unfortunately that's our own "Original Research" and it is not allowed in Wikipedia. If you find REFERENCES to the name "Biscay Bridge" anywhere, then we can proceed. But the WHS list, although incorrect in the strict sense, is the official name. You can dispute the title of the article, BUT , the WHS is official from UNESCO and the infobox states the official name (see the "*" note) so we have to stick to that. I had also seen the bullshit "Bizjaia" you say, in the body of the WHS article, but that is a web site misspeling, the (I repeat) OFFICIAL name for UNESCO is Vizcaya Bridge, and that name is quite correct... altough it merges the Spanish "Vizcaya" (also official) with the English "bridge". Yes, the proper name should be "Biscay Bridge", but you won't find it listed as that anywhere. David (talk) 08:34, 15 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
