year of birth
[edit]I'm reverting that to 1983 again, as the only in depth source on her currently is the Atlanta Journal article who states her age 29 in August 2013, moreover it states that Seacrest (born 1974) and her did not overlap at school, which makes 1973 highly unlikely for her.
Now there is of course still the chance for typo or some other mistake. Somebody claimed in the version history, that she graduated Dunwoody in 1992, now if there's a source for that, then 1973 might be correct after all and the date should be changed again. But short of that or another source, we need to go with the closest, best source available so far and that is (for now) the Atlanta Journal.--Kmhkmh (talk) 06:34, 2 November 2017 (UTC)
- P:S. I left the 23rd of October in there for now. However if one wants to be really picky and rely on the Atlanta Journal only and completely disregard the Oakland Press compilation, then we can only state the year of birth as 1983/84, as it was actually the case in earlier versions of the article (for see instance [1]). Also note note that a given age in a given year usually allows for 2 possible years of birth. Say your age is 29 years on 1 August 2013, if your actual birthday is before August 1st, then the year of birth is 1984 (you've turned 29 earlier that year). However if the birthday is after August 1st, then the year of birth 1983 (as you'll be turning 30 later in 2013).--Kmhkmh (talk) 13:23, 2 November 2017 (UTC)
The article cited in the main Wiki, which stated that she was 29 at time of publication (for 1983), also includes her own quote about her high school: "Ryan Seacrest used to do our morning announcements". Seacrest was born in 1974, so any peers would at most within three or four years of him. - Random Dude — Preceding unsigned comment added by 73.37.4.129 (talk) 18:20, 31 March 2018 (UTC)
- yes, however that is relying on an (implicit) "interpretation" of her comment about secret vs the explicitly given age and in such case we got go with the explicit age, unless we get additional evidence clearly suggesting that 29 must be a typo.--Kmhkmh (talk) 19:08, 31 March 2018 (UTC)
- P.S. Btw. that this suggested interpretation of her line about Seacrest, is actually false, can be seen at another place in the same article where it says:
- "At Dunwoody High, she knew of the ambitious fellow Wildcat [Seacrest] who used to welcome students each day over the school intercom, even though they didn’t overlap."

https://tisch.nyu.edu/alumni/tisch-at-sundance/2018-sundance/premieres states that Bang graduated with a BFA in 1996. Assuming that the Associate Press's birthdate for Bang is on October 23 and that she graduated in 4 years and entered uni at 18, then her birthday should be October 23, 1974. Given the implication that 1. Seacrest was born 1974 (who attended around the same time Bang did) 2. She would have to be 13 in order to graduate from NYU in 1996 if she was born in 1983, I would say that she was born (most likely) on October 23, 1974. — BriefEdits (talk) 03:45, 9 February 2020 (UTC)
- I reversed that for now as it is not a source directly on the age and not really a particular reliable source in general either (in comparison to the cited newspaper article about her). I admit though that the question of her age is somewhat unclear and I'd consider the newspaper age a typo (29 instead of 39) which would then match the other info, if it were not for the article also explicitly stating that she did not overlap with Seacrest. That part can't be due to a typo. To settle question we would need additional sources.--Kmhkmh (talk) 05:17, 9 February 2020 (UTC)
- https://www.buzzsprout.com/270344/1752943 Bang explicitly said that she moved to NYC at 17. Current NYU calendar have them starting around early September. This would validate the hypothesis that her birth year is 1974 if her birthday is in October. (However AP News puts her birth year at 1973 so I guess that might be closer to the real thing.)Regardless, I don't feel comfortable keeping up the 1983 birth year when there is only 1 source supporting it and several sources that says otherwise. (Sidenote: The overlap line in the Atlanta Journal article doesn't explicitly say that the years didn't overlap. It read more like they were classmates that have never met but that's just my interpretation.) — BriefEdits (talk) 05:49, 9 February 2020 (UTC)
- I didn't really consider that overlao may to "geography" rather than "time". However with this reading that they simply didn't share any classes the 29 can be considered as a typo and all the other sources/infos then seem to confirm each other.
- One more curiosity though. The AP News bit states that it was Oct 23 (that day) while being dated at the top as Oct 18.--Kmhkmh (talk) 08:55, 9 February 2020 (UTC)
