Biography needs clean-up

[edit]

Biography is difficult to read and it has many typos. Template inserted.--Suzusan (talk) 11:27, 6 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Clean up & Referencing

[edit]

I've cleaned up the biography section a bit, rewording. Article could do with more sources if possible, or at least the biography is reliant on one source. If info does have source but missing citation, please cite it in-line. Citing can be more objective with "x-source wrote/stated..." instead of this article claiming that itself. Also, should the paragraph on his marriage be moved out of the Academia section?

If it has been generally improved, can the clean up tag from 2010 be removed? Momonowa (talk) 10:49, 24 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Inept translation

[edit]

I removed this quotation from Nemésio's memoir Corsair das Islas because it is rendered in poor English. If I had access to the original Portuguese text, I could translate it into idiomatic English but I haven't found the Portuguese text. Here is the complete sample from the memoir. If anyone knows how to rewrite this into "proper" English, we can put the quotation back into the article.

"I like Horta like loquats. I long nostalgically for who I was, I don't how, when I was here. Everything I imagined and, more or less, was frustrated by was here; but Horta is not just going beyond... Matriz on high, where the homes of the nobility stood and which the Jesuits adapted, and another two or three always cubical, fastidious church convents on high; each points, when I leave, to the parishes of Conceição, Horta and Angústias, it is what is needed to complete a good citizenship, white as a bride: Horta."
