For those with some awareness of phylogenetics or clade presentations

[edit]

Could you have a look at this effort, here, to use clade diagrams to summarize pharma business acquisitions. My take at present is that the images created are devoid of standard quantitative meaning—nothing is captured by vertical and horizontal line lengths, as far as I can tell—and so they are a misapplication of this maths/graphic presentation method. Moreover, I argue that they are misleading (presenting a time axis, but not making spacing of events proportionate to the historical time differences), much harder to maintain (consider adding entries to a std Table versus this graphic), more likely to diminish article quality (in their ambiguity of content, again, over a std Table with clear headings), and therefore practically amenable to decay as a result. I would add to this, in this esteemed vis-comm context, that they would make those who trained us, and other purists in methodology and meaning (and Edward Tufte more generally), turn in their graves/beds. After having a look at the User page and at a couple of pages linked on that sandbox page, leave your opinion here, regarding the overall effort? Thanks for your opinion. Cheers. Sections

[edit]

The introduction paragraph has keywords that are not identified in the content of the article. The introduction paragraph also needs a further explanation of visual communication. Maybe even more up to date references. Moeniagt (talk) 23:14, 26 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Perception & interpretation section needed--Albedo @ 09:51, 29 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

History section needed Eye of Horus and information about how visual communication has evolved from print to screen could be included here among other historically significant topics. I think is important about this topic Knwightm (talk) 19:09, 26 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

There could be more visual elements included such as photos to help the reader understand what is being said. Maddie06283 (talk) 04:20, 29 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

visual element part could add more backed up sources. Soniayyy (talk) 23:32, 6 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Is anything missing that could be added? -> Citations need to be added, Specific examples for culture section (statistics/ quantitative data), Visuals to what they are describing, More in-depth explanation of all types of visual communication listed Sydneyrobinson (talk) 22:51, 6 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The overview section needs more reliable sources.Gingyrael (talk) 15:45, 20 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

All types of visual communication listed should be expanded upon to make the article more comprehensive. Currently, only some are discussed in detail. 3D types of visual communication need more depth. Bdokolasa (talk) 03:13, 16 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Will there be any further content on the influence of visual communication as technology continues to advance? Only social media seems to be mentioned as another method of communication. Analyzing the overall impact and changes in visual communication as technology progresses would be a nice touch to add. Jlowe022 (talk) 20:19, 16 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Is there additional information about the history of visual communication? Perhaps going back to the transition from oral societies (cave drawings and early depictions or orality to chirographically)?Dcm829 (talk) 04:15, 27 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

What else could be improved? I think there needs to be more visual aids in the page to pose a more appealing article that gravitates readers to read more of the article. Ahuezo004 (talk) 22:12, 22 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Need more reliable sources

[edit]

When i check the link sources like 3/7/8/12 all come from website page, I wonder how many accurate they can provide to the article. And more images and media can make article more interesting. Soymilkp20 (talk) 03:21, 21 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with what you said about more images and media, however when I do check the sources they are all accurate the the article. Kwg23 (talk) 21:23, 11 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

More images and media would be key for this article especially being based of Visual Communication.

Content

[edit]

For the content, this article discusses the purpose and importance of visual communication in terms of social media, culture and politics, which is very comprehensive and specific. As a supplement, I would like to see more examples of the use of visual communication in new media such as short videos.--Yzou100 (talk) 16:08, 28 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia Evaluation - Schlerf

[edit]

I am evaluating the visual communication article on Wikipedia. I am a visual learner therefore I felt as though this would be the most interesting article for me. Evaluation: Introduction- The introduction is brief and to the point while sharing the basic ideas around visual communication. There is no bias and there is no opinionated remarks. It is simply worded with simple sentence structure. The sentences are quite monotone but there is not a lot going on which makes it a good introduction. Overview- The overview dives deeper into the important characters, analysis, and visual aid media. It is well organized and perfectly lays out each one of the topics with a brief discussion of what they mean or do. It talks about each perspective and what they mean as well. It is hard to talk about these ideas ambiguously but this article does a good idea not letting them bleed together. The visual aid media goes into more detail and explains each aid in more depth. Components- This is the shortest and most basic section. It goes into the color and other components of visual media in an easy to read way. It talks about how different colors and styles interact with each other to create visual media. They do a good job objectively explaining. Prominence and motive- This section talks about all the different places where visual communication pops up in life today. This section does a good job bringing in a lot of sources. There is a part in Culture that brings in an unreliable source so obviously this is not good. They also bring in a large sections about the functions in politics. This does a good job at being unbiased and simply stating the facts. There is a bit of sloppy writing but otherwise its fairly well laid out Sources- The first source comes to a website with nothing just an error message so thats not good. The rest of the sources are good for the most part but one source was marked as unreliable. IntroToCom101 Schlerf (talk) 19:57, 21 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki education assignment: BISM 2800 spring 2024

[edit]

The introduction gives a quick overview of visual communication without any opinions. It's easy to understand and doesn't use fancy words.

Overview This part talks more about visual communication, like what it means and how it's used. It's well-organized and explains things clearly without getting confusing.

Components: This section is short and talks about the basic parts of visual stuff, like colors and styles. It explains how they work together.

Prominence and Motive: This part talks about where we see visual communication in our lives, like in politics and culture. It uses a lot of sources, but some might not be reliable. Overall, it gives facts without taking sides.

Sources: Most of the sources are good, but one doesn't work, and another might not be trustworthy. Tannaman12 (talk) 18:08, 10 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki Education Assignment: Spring 2024

[edit]

After evaluating and overlooking this article, I'm able to see that the original editors did very well with providing what we need to understand the world of Visual communication. The original editor created the article in a well-listed organized way by either listing the various subjects in a bullet point style or by separating the subjects into different subcategories. By providing readers with an article like this, the reader can easily find where the term and definition is located.

If there is one thing that needed to be improved though, I would have to advise adding more images. By adding my images to a topic about visual communication, the article can certainly become more aesthetically pleasing and can even help to attract more readers. Sometimes, even adding images can help clarify what a term or definition means. — ~~~~ BeckAugust (talk) 22:58, 24 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
