Channel 6
[edit]Is there really a need for Channel 6 to have a separate article. The ownership of the channel changed and in line with that change that channel was re-branded as 3e, TV3's parent company owned part of Channel 6 and only bought out the other owners. TV3 was sold in 2006 and has completely different owners does this make it a different channel? IrishTV (talk) 17:37, 24 June 2014 (UTC)
- Put the edit war on this article please discuss this issue IrishTV (talk) 22:38, 1 July 2015 (UTC)
- There is no point having to pages for 3e and Channel 6, their isn't enought on Channel 6 for it to have a page of its own, or 3e for that matter. It's good to see how TV3 ruined Channel 6 in any case. IrishTV (talk) 23:29, 1 July 2015 (UTC)
- Please at least Edit channel 6 properly if you do undo, yes we know 3e isn't as good as Channel 6IrishTV (talk) 23:35, 1 July 2015 (UTC)
If you want to discuss the possibility of a separate page for Channel 6, do so here, don't just undo everything on the page because you think it was set up as a different channel. Channels change name all the time, particularly when bought by different companies. 3e was simple to cater for the idea that TV3 have do different channels as part of their package of channels. IrishTV (talk) 14:13, 23 September 2015 (UTC)
There is similar disagreement with TXFM/Phantom. 109.255.120.83 (talk) 17:22, 23 September 2015 (UTC)
- Yes I consider Phantom FM and TXFM the same operation with different owners. The same could be said of 4FM who's owners have little to do with the setting up of the company it's now called Classic Hits 4fm or we could talk about Sunshine FM formally Country Mix. UTV and Communicorp now own the majority of local radio stations including LMFM and 98FM, are these different companies because of their new owners? or the same because they retained their names? How about Eir? https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Eir_(telecommunications) IrishTV (talk) 14:30, 24 September 2015 (UTC)
- Also I agree 3e schedule is terrible, It's a backwards step for the channel. The increase in audience share is purely down to Reality TV from England, sport and the fact it is available on Saorview. It's marketing is worse than channel 6's. The channel 6 logo was 10 times better. Everything about the relaunch of the channel is bad. IrishTV (talk) 14:30, 24 September 2015 (UTC)
Channel category
[edit]Rather than create a big list on this page, does anyone else think it would be a good idea to make a category of "Shows broadcast by Channel 6". I mean, Channel 4 (UK) has one, and so do some others. - RHeodt 12:59, 31 March 2006 (UTC)
- I think move the list to its own article or maybe dump it altogether. Djegan 19:27, 31 March 2006 (UTC)
- My main objection, is that I don't like lists where they're not neccessary. I think categories are much easier to use. I also have an objection to it being here, but that's taking the backseat. - RHeodt 21:59, 31 March 2006 (UTC)
- I'm more inclined to these kind of lists to be honest, they are well established on Wikipedia, all the Irish stations have lists, as does Channel 4, and I don't particularly like the idea of loads of categories at the end of articles. For example, if we were to convert all lists of <channel> programmes to categories, a show like CSI: Crime Scene Investigation would potentially end up with something like a hundred categories at the bottom of it. I would prefer if TV shows were only put into categories related to their production or the original network that aired them - for example My Name Is Earl is in the categories Category:NBC network shows and Category:Fox Television Studios shows. I would say that if Take Six et al had articles then they should be in a seperate category, a sub-category of Category:Irish television programmes, but imported programming should stay in lists. As for breaking the list out, should probably be done soon enough, I only kept it in the main article because it's not that long yet and they haven't all been broadcast. -- Lochaber 02:31, 1 April 2006 (UTC)
- Ok. I don't REALLY mind, I just don't like lists that much. Also does anyone know its Chorus numbers? (Frequency and digital channel) - RHeodt 11:40, 1 April 2006 (UTC)

- Considering the list already seems to be either out of date or incorrect (e.g. Prison Break is not being shown) should the page just link to the channel's own version (http://www.channel6.ie/programmes.whtm)?
- To be honest when I orignally created the list it only had the shows that they were scheduled to be broadcast then when it was launched the list was changed to currently being broadcast however someone has now edit respchanged the list to include shows that they will be broadcasting the future, to take your example Prison Break, they aren't currently broadcasting but they have the rights to broadcast it a few months after RTÉ, it has been in a lot of their publicity and in the show reel that is looped when the channel is off air, as has The Inside. I think I'll split the list into currently broadcast and announced. -- Lochaber 09:08, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

Dead Like Me
[edit]I have removed the reference to Dead Like Me being on Network Two as this does not seem to be the case. To be fair I have also removed all reference to Dead Like Me since it hasn't been on a while Channel 6 in a while however I cannot find any reference to Dead Like Me on RTÉ except on here. -- Lochaber 20:55, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
AFAIK Dead Like Me was first aired on TV3 in Ireland. I do not think RTÉ ever aired this show. —Preceding unsigned comment added by IrishTV (talk • contribs) 18:12, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
I can tell you for definite that Dead Like Me never appeared on TV3 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.203.76.222 (talk) 18:52, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

Sky digital channel
[edit]Are you sure the channel is set at 182 atm? I just checked on my own box and it's not there currently. Govvy (talk) 23:27, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
- Yes its on SKY channel 182, on the Republic of Ireland EPG, not the UK one.Lozleader (talk) 00:12, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
- I'm on the UK version of Sky Digital. Maybe I don't have the channel then. Govvy (talk) 12:44, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
3e Schedule
[edit]Since when did The simpsons and Chuck start showing on 3e? --Waterfordwhite (talk) 18:55, 27 April 2009 (UTC)
They haven't, The simpsons is running on RTÉ TWO. Schedule changed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by IrishTV (talk • contribs) 11:04, 29 April 2009 (UTC)
==== Can we please stop changing the schedule the one that I put up in March was purely to give an idea of what their new schedule was looking like. The types of programming don't change that much and I am sure that In Treatment will be back soon.
- The schedule is not to be changed until Summer 2010, any changes to the schedule will be undone as Wikipedia is not a TV Guide, the Schedule is their to give an idea of the types of shows available on the channel for 2009/2010. The article itself has a section for 3e News. IrishTV (talk) 21:13, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
That schedule really needs an overhaul sooner than Summer 2010 - it is completely different to that on weekdays in prime-time now, with stripped series across most hours. What's present on this page is informative only if someone wants to see what it's schedule *was* like - it bears no resemblance to 3e today in any way! And in that sense, it isn't exactly of much use to anyone. Wikipedia is rightly not a TV Guide but if a major rework of the schedule (like the January 2010 one) takes place, this really needs to update to reflect that at some point after it becomes the norm. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.46.200.76 (talk) 23:28, 10 February 2010 (UTC)
- The schedule is purely there to provide an idea of what types of shows 3e provide during the year, the schedule outlines the majority of programmes broadcast on the channel. The article outlines the schedule changes during the year including the addition of 3e News at 6pm. The schedule is constantly changing on 3e but the programming provided by the channel is of similar style. You will also end up changing the schedule in a months time. Again as outlined in the article "In 2009 several rearrangements of the 3e schedule occurred including showing repeats of Xpose and Emmerdale straight after TV3, followed by putting Xpose on at 5:30pm instead of 6:30pm and removing repeat showings of Emmerdale and replacing them with repeat showings of Coronation Street. Each of the changes failed to ignite 3e audience share, at first a small drop was seen. As you can see Xpose was returned to 6:30pm, while a Coronation Street omnibus is now shown on Sunday afternoon." and its title is Prime time Sample/Indicative schedule 2009/2010 IrishTV (talk) 11:18, 11 February 2010 (UTC)
Well, the 2010 arrangement (which has been in place for almost two months) is not showing signs of 'constantly changing' - in fact, it looks to me like it's the norm going forward. It may well be that updating this grid to reflect that will require less changes longer-term, even as an indicative one - showing 3e News, Xpose, Malcolm, CSI at 8pm, Documentaries/Glee at 9pm, Family Guy etc. from 10pm. It is widely different from that shown, and makes what is currently there quite unreflective and unhelpful in its intent. There is no Coronation Street on 3e currently at all, which makes the accompanying text out of date. As channels go, the current 3e schedule seems to me to be very much in the 'stripped' style of most satellite channels. If anything, the grid mis-informs because much of the US drama no longer seems to have a home in prime-time. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.46.200.76 (talk) 23:27, 15 February 2010 (UTC)
- I still think you will be changing it again in 2 months time. They started out in the Summer of 2009 with a similar strip schedule only to replace it with another schedule. The article mentions Glee, which is not stripped as it goes out once a week. As I said the article doesn't miss inform anyone as it states what programming is available on 3e and the changes that have been made to the sample schedule. IrishTV (talk) 11:01, 16 February 2010 (UTC)
We'll have to agree to disagree, and it's not important enough an issue to bother with a Wiki user vote - if it's still the same (and I mean generally - Comedy at 5pm, 3e News at 6pm, Xpose at 6.30pm, Malcolm at 7pm, CSI at 8pm, Documentaries/Glee at 9pm, Family Guy at 10pm, Comedy at 10.30pm, Family Guy at 11pm, American Dad at 11.30pm, Sex and the City at 12am etc. - we really should assume it is the longer-term schedule and make the changes to update the non-indicative one. Certainly, the one on the page did change after Summer 2009, so I'll grant they change it about a bit, but this new one seems to have improved ratings and share from the most recent Nielsen numbers I've seen. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.46.200.76 (talk) 00:27, 19 February 2010 (UTC)
- Well they are renaming 3e News as FYI and the ratings have been up but not hugely. If you want to change it go for it but lets leave it at that change if there are any other major changes it has to be considered indicative or a sample and the next change can only happen once the schedule is relaunched in September 2010, otherwise we will have to remove the schedule in its entirety. And please sign up to Wikipedia. IrishTV (talk) 00:20, 21 February 2010 (UTC)
We are now going into May, and 3e have kept the same consistent line up for 5 months, yet no changes. 5 Everybody Hates Chris 6 FYI 6.30 XPOSE 7 Malcolm 8 CSI 9 Specials 10 Family Guy 10.30 Mix Of Comedy 11:00 Family Guy 11:30 American Dad. This has been like this for 5 whole months, yet no change in the schedule. How can the current schedule on 3e be any use to someone looking at information about the channel? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Eddiemundo (talk • contribs) 12:37, 23 April 2010 (UTC)
- One month later and we have a reschedule. I don't think it will last even during the World Cup. Malcolm replaced by What not to wear US and CSI by Bridezillas???IrishTV (talk) 21:28, 16 June 2010 (UTC)
- And now it's back to normal again - presumably the female-programming changes were World Cup related and lasted just that long. The schedule has been wholly consistent for seven months now, for the most part. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.46.200.76 (talk) 22:38, 17 July 2010 (UTC)
- How many more repeats can they continue to show. It is of course Ironic that CSI is actually watched by more female viewers. IrishTV (talk) 23:48, 17 July 2010 (UTC)
Original Founders?
[edit]Should we ever use the phrase Original Founders. Since most founders are original, TV3 could not be considered the founders of this television and neither could any other company that happens to buy 3e. Surely Original Founders is an Oxymoron? However I may be looking for another word to suggest that founders are always original.
Also the question of the grammar of the sentence. The Founders were.... or the founders was....
I would think it should be the founders were... —Preceding unsigned comment added by IrishTV (talk • contribs) 13:33, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
Press Releases and News reports
[edit]This is just me - perhaps it is other as well. But often using Press Release and News Reports - which often use just press release - can cause you to get a picture that a company's PR office wants to give. 3e's audience share is a good example. Since moving to 105 on Sky Digital 3e has increased it share by 25%, which seems like a lot but in reality it is a low figure when 3e's audience has be at 0.8 since January and in the last number weeks has returned to 1.1%. Note how after the re-launch of the channel TV3 didn't announce that it had lost 36% of their audience and it would be unlikely if they did. In saying that a drop from Channel 6's 1.1% to 0.7% isn't actually allot but it just shows how a company will spin their product. Lies, damned lies, and statistics. IrishTV (talk) 16:26, 13 November 2009 (UTC)
Replaced or Relaunched as 3e
[edit]TV3 bought the channel 6 in mid-2008, it began cross promotions as soon as the deal was completely. From the beginning of 2009 to mid-2009 3e remained under the original licence and the channel still provides separate accounts to the Company Registers Office. This leads me to believe that it is a relaunch, not a replacement. IrishTV (talk) 16:50, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

Request to Update Irish Channels Share of Viewing
[edit]An impartial editor has reviewed the proposed edit(s) and asked the editor with a conflict of interest to go ahead and make the suggested changes. |
Hi all, I am looking to update the viewing share for the Irish channels (Virgin Media One, Virgin Media Two, Virgin Media Three, RTÈ One, RTÈ 2, TG4 and EirSport 1) using TAM Nielsen data from 2019. However, I have a Conflict of Interest as I am employed by one of them. I have posted this on all of the relevant pages as I'm hoping to get a consensus to go ahead.
