[edit]

I know that there has been some question about whether his Facebook page is actually "genuine" or not. So I thought I'd share a link to this: http://www.facebook.com/?ref=logo#!/video/video.php?v=1408800029286 In this video from the set of Fast Five, he directly comments about the page and one of the fans who frequently posts on it. This video was created for the purpose of posting on his Facebook page- I'd say that's cite worthy? AbstractMage (talk) 05:24, 9 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Vin Diesel Meme

[edit]

Vin Diesel is his stage cool name. These jokes are just a corrupted version of Chuck Norris jokes, and even moar lame. Also, DESUDESUDESUDESUDESUDESUDESUDESU. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.51.75.232 (talk) 03:25, 14 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Daughter's Name

[edit]

Someone needs to change his daughter's name on here. It's NOT Hania Riley. Vin CONFIRMED his daughter's name to be "Samilce", named after an Iberian princess, on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on March 30, 2009. (Here's the link: http://www.nbc.com/The_Tonight_Show_with_Jay_Leno/video/episodes/?vid=1076923#vid=1076923)

As far as I can ascertain, his daughter's name ə ɚhas never been stated in the press. I'm not sure where the name previously posted, Hania Riley, came from, but a link needs to be provided to confirm this information. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.193.139.132 (talk) 07:10, 11 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You can't be sure about the spelling here though. "Samilce" is definitely wrong; the proper spelling would be "Similce", but the way Vin pronounced it on Leno it could be "Semilce" as well. JanineB (talk) 22:59, 19 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm pretty certain that there is no movie "Learn2Play" movie, since that's a photoshop from the 'net meme. Can anybody confirm that? Fdgfds 22:40, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There is no such movie. I'm going to get rid of it from the list right now. User: QuantumDriver

the link is a famous internet phenomenon. It should be noted and linked the this article, as it pertains to Vin Diesel.

I agree! Here it is: http://www.4q.cc/vin/
Only If that famous internet phenomenon is stealing. Replace the name Vin Diesel with Chuck Norris and we know where the quotes TRULY came from.
Hmm, two anons so far. I quote from the link:
Vin Diesel's semen is the source of all life. That is to say, when he ejaculates, he creates a new galaxy. This is how the 'Milky Way' came to be.
It does not belong on wikipedia. Cburnett 06:51, May 2, 2005 (UTC)
Okay, at the least there should be mention of him becoming central to this new internet meme going around. --Paul Soth 05:26, 3 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
That I can live with (except the link at the bottom as I moved it to the section you wrote). I just wouldn't want an unknowing person to visit the link assuming it's true. I don't mind spreading disinformation so long as people are informed it's such. :) Cburnett 05:59, May 3, 2005 (UTC)

How does that seem appropriate? Do you want to link to some other webforum's childish behavior too, because it tangentially relates to the subject? Maybe you can append to each topic the Something Awful's "good squad" touches in their valuable contributions.

Hello. I have removed all mention of this commercial link. The facts cited in it are false. It cited traffic climbing by July 4 at the "50 million hit mark", yet the Alexa rankings show the site to be hardly trafficked at all, and traffic has been in decline since April. This was a blatant attempt to put commercial spam on Wikipedia and jerk traffic to a commercial website which features only a simple quote and many, many advertisements surrounding it. I suspect that most of the little traffic that the website does currently pull comes directly from Wikipedia...

See this page for traffic details: http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details?q=&url=www.4q.cc/vin

-Uris 17:58, 10 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I believe that a link to 4q.cc/vin should be added, with a note saying that it is an internet meme, a fad and not a word of it is true. Also, Alexa ratings are skewed because it is rated spyware by most spyware destroyers, and doesn't work on anything but IE. -tasadar24(AIM) I'll get an account later... 31 July 2005

Hello there. I'd just like to let you know that as the creator of the website, I don't see why it shouldn't be allowed. I am unable to comment about a "50 million hit mark" since the counter on the website clearly shows that the site is about 20 million hits short of that (as of 8/15/05). Feel free to view stats for the page at any time at http://www.4q.cc/stats/webalizer/. As mentioned in the disclaimer, The Generator is strictly a humor website and has received acclaim from Empire Online (UK entertainment magazine) and ESPN.com, amongst other places. Since I started the site in April, I have not received a single piece of hate mail, nor have I been contacted by anyone representing Mr. Diesel (or Mr. Vincent... I'm not quite sure which moniker you'd use for a case like this) telling me to take it down. That being said, I hope those of you nay-sayers reconsider.

Hello, it's a Random Annonymous Guy. I added to the end of the section a stublike about Vin Diesel's ridiculous factthings. Since you're still fighting over the site, didn' put any links; but the 'external links' section might be a good place to list them. I just didn't add any clear 'stub' marks because I don't know how. Over and out.

Just wanted to note that the Vin Diesel fad came way before the Chuck Norris fad. It just wasn't as popular. If anything is stealing from the other, Chuck Norris facts are stolen from the Vin Diesel ones.

No, it actually started with Chuck Norris back in the 80's before anyone even knew who Vin Diesel was. It originated from the popular Bruce Lee vs. Chuck Norris playground game. Conan O'brein probably brought the popularity of the ridiculous Chuck Norris claims back to the internet with his late night clips of Walker Texas Ranger.
Vin Diesel random fact generator started as thread in the SomethingAwful forums, and then it got it's own page. Later (much later), a Chuck Norris random fact generator was made, reusing many of the facts from the original Vin Diesel version.

Moved this section 21 November 2005: In my opinion it's pointless and is also apparently an ad

Vin Diesel "Facts"

There is a meme growing around Vin Diesel, where its alleged that he is responsible by many absurd, when not just surreal, "facts". They are always focused into his (alleged) greatness, prowess and awesomeness, in a very humorous way. They have been sighted in forum signatures and small compilations.

A few are listed below as example:

  • Vin Diesel was the first person to walk up to a cow and say, "Whatever comes out of these things when I squeeze them, I'm drinking."
  • When Vin Diesel does a pushup, he isn't lifting himself up, he's pushing the Earth down.
  • Vin Diesel can divide by zero.
  • It takes 14 puppeteers to make Vin Diesel smile, but only 2 to make him destroy an orphanage.
  • Vin Diesel is the only person who knows why paper can beat rock.
  • Vin Diesel invented the internet
  • Vin Diesel has two speeds: Walk and Kill.
  • Vin Diesel drives a racecar and it destroys the hopes and dreams of orphans. It goes fast.

You can view them all at the Random Vin Diesel Fact Generator.

  • It is a very, very popular meme, so I think it does deserve a mention in the article, though maybe not as many examples.
  • Heyoo. I admit, I added this thing originally. Nop, not an ad. Was supposed to have only five examples, tho. Kobayen 03:36, 11 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'm in favor of the Fact Generator being put on the entry. SovietChicken 11 December 20005

Link removed. Link is irrelevant and non-encyclopedic. Please do not add non-notable content to Wikipedia. Thank you. Adraeus 06:28, 12 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree. As the one who added the link, I felt it very necessary. Like it or not, the fact generator is related to Vin Diesel, and is part of what some people identify with him. I added the link because the "facts" were a section of this article, and I felt that if the article mentioned the fact generator, a link should be provided. One could create an article devoted to the generator itself, but it would only be a matter of time before someone would suggest that it should be merged with this article. I guarantee that I am not related at all to the generator itself and I find it to be personally insulting for all of you to suggest that the link was added for commercial purposes. Since the "fact" generator is indeed part of Vin Diesel's worldwide identity, and by extension, the site which has created it, I am re-inserting the section regarding the "fact" generator and the link to the original site. And if you have any problem with that, feel free to take it up with me personally. R'son-W 09:12, 20 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Furthermore, I will regard anyone deleting this section as an act of vandalism, as well as anyone adding more "facts" to the section.R'son-W 09:24, 20 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
My apologies, I should have read this discussion before simply reverting that edit as nonsense. - Akamad 09:20, 20 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. You reverted it as I was writing the comment above. R'son-W 09:24, 20 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I re-added the section, but without examples. It seems to me that the examples were the main problem with that section.R'son-W 19:06, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Just thought I'd add another support vote for the "fact" generator. The Taped Crusader 08:55, 8 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's ridiculous to have so many examples. I can live with the meme being mentioned, but I think that there should be one or zero examples listed. Orpheus 04:39, 10 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

why do you care

[edit]

His sexuality is surely his business unless he wants to discuss it in public.

--Because it is interesting--that seems to be enough reason for me!

Also how come this article has two references to him playing world of warcraft under two different names?

This article is very poor, I think, and should be edited down to a fact oriented biography.

It's not the first time I've heard about it, in fact, that's what I came to read lol. I think someone should look it up and refrence it instead of insecure sarcasm.

I HEARD IS IS THE LOVE CHILD OF VIN IPPEL AND DANNY DIESEL

  • Facts about the subject's personal life are relevant when they are the subject of wide public notice and attention, as shown in mass media. You were correct about covering rumors about who he is dating, and right to remove that material; however I have re-inserted the reference to the USA Today interview where he addressed rumors that he was gay, since that was in a reliable source. Also, please sign your messages, and put comments at the bottom, not the top, of Talk pages. Thanks, --MCB 17:19, 17 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Height

[edit]

Does anybody know how tall Vin Diesel is?

Actors always lie about their height (unless they're obviously so tall) so you'll never know for exact sure no matter what it says on their bio. Just by looking at him, I'd say somewhere between 5'11" and 6'2". MrBlondNYC 08:27, 24 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I heard this was a line he once said because he wasn't going to be starring in a film and refused to show his arms. I heard this on ET long ago. I was wondering if anyone had any info on this because he took the Iron Giant role after rejecting said movie.

Background

[edit]

Is there some kind of first-hand reliable source for his background? I notice someone again added him to an Italian category, but is there a source for that? There's nothing in the article about it, and junky trivia sites like the IMDB, etc. aren't particularly reliable. Mad Jack 05:31, 7 September 2006 (UTC) And is he English or French? Vin Diesel USA Today Article

[edit]

The wiki claims that the article cited says that Diesel confirms rumors of his being gay. However, if you actually take the time to read the article, he clearly says that he is not gay. "I love women more than anything. When someone says I'm gay, these people don't have a damn clue. The only way anyone knows which girl I'm with is if a one-night stand goes on Howard Stern. Maybe I took to heart what Tom Hanks once told me: that from 30 to 40 is when you create your career. I have four more years, then family." I'm editing the article to reflect this.

Ethnicity

[edit]

Since everyone has been discussin nothing but B.S. in this talk page, I've decided to post something useful and relevant: I'm pretty sure Vin is mixed with black and with ethnicities, so this needs to be posted; the only reason i havent done so is because i want this confirmed. • He has stated he is 1/2 Black and 1/2 Italian.

Yes, as we all know its difficult for Jews to make it in Hollywood. You're obviously an extreme intune individual to deduce the fact that hes trying to hide his "jewishness"!! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 60.241.12.120 (talk) 12:09, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

        • I remember a TV interview where he became visibly uncomfortable when asked about his ethnicity and this is typical of Jews who are trying to hide their origins because it just wouldn't help his career to be identified as Jew. It's better to allow people to think he's some kind of mixed race mulatto so he might appeal to the black community as well as action film fans in general who tend to have at least a mild anti-Semitism. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.74.238.85 (talk) 02:10, 26 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Everything concerning his race thus far has been speculation. There are no reliable sources, nor have any been cited. In the special features of Multi-Facial, Diesel states that he prefers not to state his race. I'm immediately removing all racial categories tagged on this page.

There has been concrete stuff in older interviews. In a 2001 article from the Virginia Pilot, he states that he is "of ambiguous ethnicity - Italian and a lot of stuff".[1] And a few other pieces say he is half black and half Italian.[2][3] All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 09:23, 2 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Still, you'll notice that it's others asserting this ethnicity upon him; at no point in these interviews do I see any transcript of him confirming or even acknowledging it. Wikifried (talk) 16:47, 10 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
He has discussed it explicitly himself - aside from the direct quote above, he says "My mother is Italian" here. And those newspaper articles - and there are hordes from the 2001-2002 era that describe him as Italian and Black - precede all the internet mumbo-jumbo that's spread around the past few years. Personal Life hard to understand

[edit]

Diesel is an avid fan of death and blood. He currently owns the video game company, headless Studios, which produced The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay, a video game based on the movie, in which his likeness and voice are featured. At the 2006 Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles, it was announced that he will lend his likeness to the kieth sutherland who also came to be a macomb monster The Wheelman. The beast is also being developed concurrently as a specimen, which Diesel will also try to destroy.

I might just be stupid but what is "the kieth sutherland" and is "the beast"? This whole section reads like gibberish.

Is this confirmed? Are there references for this statement? Mr.47 has been voiced by David Bateson since the Hitman series was first released. Since both 47's voice and face are that of Bateson, and since Lo Interactive have never shown displeasure with Bateson's work, it would go a long way to proving this statement as correct if a reference were provided. It's been semiprotected a few times in the past, possibly even by me; it doesn't strike me as really necessary right now -- maybe a handful of IP vandal edits over the last week or so -- but we should keep an eye on it. It does seem to attract more than the average number of bad edits that are not vandalism but are simply unencyclopedic (gossip, rumors, unsourced/questionable trivia, etc.). why is there a link to a article talking about gay rumors?

This is like putting link on the moon article page about a rumor saying the moon is made of cheese.

Vin Diesel was a fragrance model in NYC for several years in early '90s

From 1990-1993 Vin Diesel was a fragrance model at Saks Fifth Ave, Bloomingdale's and other department stores for companies like Armani and Escada. He was a bouncer at night and model by day. I know I'm late adding my opinion on this, but Primogen is correct. It is relevant for his early life. Lots of celeb bios list that celebs had other jobs before becoming a celeb. After all, not every celeb or actor was born into a acting family, like Drew Barrymore. And Smurfmeister, it does not matter if it was,in your words, Hardley a high point in his career. And if he had a paper round, that should be included also. A biography or article on Wikipedia shouldn't just list the so mentioned, high points of ones career. --BeckiGreen (talk) 23:27, 24 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Birth name

[edit]

Just as a note... it seems unlikely that he was born "Mark Sinclair Vincent". "Vincent" is the surname of his stepfather (who I think adopted him). "Sinclair" is the surname of Diesel's mother. I see a couple of references here and there that simply state that Diesel's name was at one point "Mark Sinclair", so it's possible that he was born under that name. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 07:38, 28 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I've seen a couple of references where entertainment historians stated Vincent was his birth name (IMBD and Biography.com). But, who knows? Dkspartan1 (talk) 01:56, 6 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The only real way it could be his birth name is if his mother married his step-father, Irving Vincent, before Diesel was born (which is possible). All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 04:37, 8 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The article listed two birth names, "Mark Sinclair or Mark Sinclair Vincent." I just removed both. An hour ago they had two citations which made no claims whatsoever about his birth name, which I replaced with conflicting latimes.com citations (a Music Blog post and an online biography database – neither clearly fact-checked to the standards of their print edition), but they were low quality citations, and according to WP:BLP claims with no high-quality reliable source should be immediately removed.
  • Mark Sinclair citation: Weiss, J (4 May 2011). "Hear Vin Diesel's 1986 rap collaboration with Arthur Russell". Los Angeles Times: Pop & Hiss, the L.A. Times Music Blog. Tribune Company. Retrieved 22 December 2013.

One thing that seems clear is that he used the name "Mark Sinclair" for some period when performing as a teenager. That doesn't mean it was his birth name, or legal name; it could easily have been a stage name. For anyone not familiar with US culture, it's not uncommon for children to change their last name to reflect a post-birth parental marriage or step-parent adoption, particularly in the absence of a birth father in the child's life, all of which seem to apply here. It's not unthinkable that he was born "Mark Sinclair", had a legal name change to "Mark Sinclair Vincent" early on, and later used "Mark Sinclair" as a stage name. Basically, anything is possible. And until a reliable source can be found on the topic, none of the possibilities should be stated as facts.
Agyle (talk) 15:40, 22 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
A Premier 2001 annual compendium says he refuses to confirm his real name as Mark Vincent

Agyle (talk) 17:09, 22 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know why "Mark Sinclair" keeps being removed from the article. Do we have any evidence that Diesel's stepfather, Irving Vincent, was married to Diesel's mother at the time of Diesel's birth? If not, then he couldn't have possibly been born under the surname "Vincent". All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 00:21, 5 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

And it's official: Vin Diesel was born Mark Sinclair on July 18, 1967, in Alameda County, California. See his birth record here. His mother was herself born in Alameda, in 1943 (see this). All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 19:31, 29 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Works for me. We probably should have a line in the Birth Index footnote to the effect of "some sources give birth name of Mark Sinclair Vincent, which is at odds with state birth record" to avoid this cropping up repeatedly.--Tenebrae (talk) 19:49, 29 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Can this be added to the "Early Life" section? :

During his teen years in New York City, Diesel used to be a break dancer. A clip from the 1980s showing him dancing has appeared in a television interview, where Diesel mentions he would perform his moves in places like Columbus Circle and Washington Square Park. Next to dancing he also tried his hand at rapping. His involvement in the 80s NYC hiphop scene brought him in contact with key scene figures like Mantronix, Beastie Boys and leftfield producer Arthur Russell. While attending school at Hunter College, he had a part-time job as a bouncer at a nightclub in the city called The Tunnel. He also adopted his stage name then, when people started calling him Vin Diesel, referring to the fuel, for his nonstop energy.

He is 6’0” or 72 inches, or 182.88 cm. He is NOT 7’1” (213cm) 6’0”. (213 cm neither equals 6’0” or 7’1” so he’s being said to be 7’1” , 6’9” , and 6’0” all at once.) Ruchele (talk) 22:08, 12 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
