Redirects/reverts
[edit]After the reverts by User:Cplakidas and User:Y, I have reverted back to the previous state, of a redirect to House of Villehardouin. Couple of observations:
- I find Cplakidas' argument compelling that the family name is by far the predominant use over the placename, which doesn't even have its own article. Y's argument, that "if someone searches for the ville, they're after the ville, not the House of", is begging the question, because the name is de facto also a personal name, and there is no reason to assume somebody who is looking for members of the family would not also enter the plain word in the search box.
- Neither the House of Villehardouin article nor the geographical Val-d'Auzon article (which currently houses the content about the village Villehardouin) have proper disambiguation hatnotes, as each of them should if they are to be the redirect target from here.
- Alternatively, given the fact that "primary" status might actually be due not so much to the family as a whole but to its most prominent member, Geoffrey of Villehardouin, we might consider the creation of a regular disambiguation page (although the family page already functions as pretty much that, in a way).
- I have removed the "db-move" template, given the fact the move seems to be potentially disputed, so I'd recommend a regular move discussion. Fut.Perf. ☼ 16:30, 4 May 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks, Future, for your intervention, you make good arguments as always. I too thought of making it a dab page, but there were two choices: one, list the village and the family, pointing out that there were several members of the latter, and referring to that for details, or two, to list the village, and every family member which actually bore the surname. Since the village by itself is less than notable and anyone who searched for the term is overwhelmingly likely to be looking after one of the family members, and since the present page already redirected to House of Villehardouin, I thought it better to keep things simple and move the family here. The village is either way mentioned in the opening sentence, and AFAIK there is really no more to be said about it than that. Constantine ✍ 17:15, 4 May 2014 (UTC)
