The article indicates that President Jean Vilbrun Guillaume Sam ordered the execution of the political prisoners. This may not be entirely correct. According to To Set the Record Straight by Max Laudun (available on Google Books) a note was sent to General Charles Oscar Etienne by the President which was capable of various interpretations, and General Etienne may have deliberately or otherwise, misinterpreted the note as an order to kill the political prisoners. In short, General Etienne may have acted on his own. As to the Wikipedia article then, there is at least a reasonable doubt as to whether the President intended or ordered that the prisoners be executed, and it is thus inaccurate to represent it as established fact that he had the 167 prisoners killed. Of course, the mobs that stormed the French embassy likely didn't know and would not have cared anyway. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.131.120.184 (talk) 17:17, 6 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
