Merging complete

[edit]

With merging of WildBlue to ViaSat complete. I have now started on cleaning up the Subdivisions section. It will need more work though, which I may finish at a later time.

NOTES I noticed that Scientific Atlanta which was listed under ViaSat, is now part of the Cisco company. However, it's now called "Antenna Systems" under ViaSat. The same with Lockheed-Martin which is now "Comsat Laboratories". —Preceding unsigned comment added by Micwa (talkcontribs) 01:31, 14 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That's because only a portion of Scientific Atlanta was purchased by ViaSat. The Antenna Systems and VSAT groups were acquired, not the core set-top box business. That is what Cisco purchased. Subdivisions section is now accurate and third party sources are added. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Browe30 (talkcontribs) 00:58, 30 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Specifically, the set top box portion of Scientific Atlanta went to Cisco, the rest to ViaSat. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.120.19.240 (talk) 15:14, 17 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This page is out of date in many areas: First paragraph: ViaSat providesits systems and services not just to American government and commercial customers, but to international militaries (http://www.f-16.net/f-16-news-article916.html) and companies (http://www.nbnco.com.au/content/dam/nbnco/media-releases/2012/viasat-satellite-ground-equipment-12-Jul-2012.pdf). Done

Divisions: ViaSat has only three divisions: Services (formerly ViaSat Communications), Government Systems, and Commercial Networks. There are many business units, such as Comsat Labs, but they are not divisions. Not done

Since the introduction of Exede Internet, total subscriptions have grown to over 620,000. (http://spacenews.com/article/satellite-telecom/39476viasat-gears-up-for-loral-trial-reports-slower-exede-growth) Done

please check our latest financials on Yahoo Finance or other sources for latest revenues - now over $1 billion - and other figures in the summary box Not done

Thanks.

Edit status:
  • I modified the wording to make it clear that the customer base was not just the US.
  • I updated the subscriber number and added a source
  • The division structure was not changed, as there were no source provided to support it
  • Financials not updated, as they were not sourced.

Reads like marketing material

[edit]

The introductory paragraph reads like marketing material for the company. Stacecom (talk) 02:42, 10 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

That's because Viasat employees took a direct hand in creating this article, and still edit their spin into it from time to time. 97.107.42.14 (talk) 11:24, 25 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I see no indication of that. - SummerPhDv2.0 19:36, 3 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Do you have any specific suggestions for changes? - SummerPhDv2.0 19:36, 3 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Self-published sources

[edit]

This edit and a later restoration by the same editor (IPs in Sturgeon Bay, WI) add summaries of forum comments. This is problematic in two ways.

First, internet forums are a type of self-published source. Anyone can say virtually anything on such sites. Wikipedia articles are based on reliable sources. Self-published sources are not acceptable.

Second, the material presented here is a summary of various unrelated comments. None of the individual comments say what the material added here said. It is synthesis, a form of original research, which is not acceptable here. - SummerPhDv2.0 19:26, 3 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 16 February 2021

[edit]
The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: Consensus to move away from the current name and disambiguate. There isn't agreement on which disambiguator the Nordic one should use, so I will go with Viasat (Nordic television service) which has at least as much consensus as any other suggestion. – The American company (Viasat, Inc.) gets twice as many pageviews as the Nordic one (Viasat), so it should probably be at the base name. If that is not enough to make it the PT, then the base name should be a DAB. MB 14:35, 16 February 2021 (UTC)Relisting. Jerm (talk) 16:40, 25 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
