Is it free software at all?
[edit]Is ViOS free software (can users get, modify, and redistribute source code)? If so, can someone mention this and add a reference? If not, can someone remove Category:free web browsers? Thanks. Gronky 21:22, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
- Please dont confuse free software or freeware with open source software. Open source software may be used to develop commercial applications that people pay for. Free web browsers are free to users - but may not necessarily be based on open source technology. Based on this, it is appropriate to keep ViOS listed as software that is free. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.162.239.113 (talk • contribs) Feb 10th 07.
- Free software and open-source software are the same thing - "open source" is simply a marketing term created for free software in 1998. Free software (and therefore open-source software), is software that comes with source code that can be modified and redistributed. Freeware is software that's distributed at no cost. Can you confirm that ViOS is software distributed at no cost, and that it is not software for which source code is available and can be modified and redistributed? VIOS Technologies
[edit]This article is about a product/service called ViOS. I've moved the text somebody inserted on VIOS Technologies to its own article, where it can survive or perish on its own merit. MarkMLl (talk) 13:03, 21 August 2010 (UTC)
