Background on the reconstruction of inscriptions from small fragments
[edit]To the layman, it beggars belief that such a lengthy inscription could be inferred from such small fragments. No doubt the reconstruction relies on the fact that Roman inscriptions were very formulaic. Still I think this article could benefit from some explanation about how the original text was reconstructed and some estimate of how likely it is to be accurate.
