Should this article be fused with the oxygen mask article?

[edit]

They are the same device just oxygen mask is a more commonly known name for the venturi mask.

Oxygen masks existed before the venturi mask, but this design was the first that allowed for control of the level of oxygen being administered whihc was a crucial development and allowed for constant administration. Before the ventrui maks patients could only be administered pure oxygen and thus had to be given intermittently to prevent oxygen poisoning. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 134.190.156.198 (talk) 03:15, 4 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Flow problems?

[edit]

The Flow problems section has no references and I have so far found none online to support (or refute) this as a problem. I have two concerns with the section:

1. If 48 L/minute is not a sufficient gas flow for somebody then I would suspect their respiratory problems are already too severe for them to be managed with a venturi mask.

2. Venturi masks with different FIO2 don't have the same oxygen input flow so the total flow wouldn't change by the ratio quoted.

Ideally somebody will be able to support or refute these problems with citations. Otherwise I think we should delete this section. --Mgp28 (talk) 13:53, 3 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

3. The section Mechanism says they are low-flow devices and the section Flow problems says they are considered high-flow devices. If these sections are referring to different devices then that needs to be made clearer. --Mgp28 (talk) 14:13, 3 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I have made some updates to the article. The Flow Problems section seemed even more problematic so I have deleted it. It can be found in this version[1] for anyone able to revive and reference it. --Mgp28 (talk) 17:44, 3 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
