Before I put this in it was just a redirect to Stockholm. I did a search for the text "Venice of the North" in google and added all that I found there[1] [2]. Bornholm is in DenmarkGraeme Bartlett 23:20, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

Removed non-notable items.

I did a quick google searc with city name + "venice of the north", and am removing all items with less than 150,000 hits, leaving the top 7, which I put in order of notability. Dominus Vobisdu (talk) 21:13, 31 May 2011 (UTC)

I object to the criterion of google hits. It's arbitrary, anglocentric and non-encyclopedic. "Fermat's little theorem" has 69000 google hits. Does that make it non-notable as well? Ragnagord (talk) 13:21, 16 September 2018 (UTC)

Giethoorn

And so are HUNDREDS, if not THOUSANDS, of other little towns and villages across the northern hemisphere. Only the most notable examples are included here, and Gierhoorn is VERY FAR from notable. Dominus Vobisdu (talk) 23:36, 9 August 2011 (UTC)

That's A LOT less than Manchester with 191,000 hits. That means there are A LOT of other towns that would rate higher than Giethoorn that are not on the list. Sorry, but Giethoorn isn't notable by far. Dominus Vobisdu (talk) 23:51, 9 August 2011 (UTC)

The list is long enough. Actually, I was just thinking of dropping Manchester and raising the criterion to 200,000 Google hits. Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of lists. I pared the list back because things were getting ridiculous, and people were adding really obscure places to the list. Six or seven is manageable and informative. More is just a mess. Added all missing sources

I added sources for Copenhagen and Manchester and removed the 'additional sources needed' banner at the top of the page. If you want to remove Manchester from the list feel free, but I advise you put a notice or warning inside the edit page (and possibly even mention this in the talk page) so that future editors will hopefully respect the 'more than 200'000 hits on Google' criterion. Birmingham, the UK's second city, is commonly referred to as this locally. Never heard it of Manchester.
