Why is Herbert not in the title?

[edit]

His full name was Herbert Vaughan Cox and this is how he was commonly referred to and how he signed off his own letters. Sometimes he would be addressed as "Herbert V. Cox" or "Sir Herbert", suggesting that Herbert was the preferred name out of the two. I have tried to move the page so that is titled correctly but I encountered an error. This has clearly come up in some way before because Herbert Vaughan Cox redirects to Vaughan Cox (i.e. the present article) Francis vb (talk) 13:39, 20 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I created the article as Herbert Vaughan Cox and then moved it to Herbert Cox. It was moved to the current title by another editor because he's referred to in Who Was Who as Sir H. Vaughan Cox, which suggests he chose not to use his first name (Who's Who entries being generally written by the subject themselves). However, if he signed himself Herbert Vaughan Cox as you say then I shall move it back. -- Necrothesp (talk) 12:13, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
