Van Trump Fork / Van Trump Falls Creek source

[edit]

I see the USGS citations for the variant names of "Van Trump Fork" and "Van Trump Falls Creek" [1], but I'm honestly not sure they are credible. The entry in the USGS database is over 30 years old, not that that necessarily means its to be called into question, but in over 20 years of hiking in Mount Rainier National Park, studying maps and researching the history of the park, I have not once seen Van Trump Creek called by either of these two names. I'd like to see verification that these alternate names deserve mention.

USGS GNIS variant names are often historic, archaic, and/or obsolete. For example, variant names of the Wisconsin River (U.S. Geological Survey Geographic Names Information System: Wisconsin River) include such things as "Riviere Ouisconsing", which dates to 1688. I agree that the variant names do not need to be mentioned here. Pfly (talk) 08:01, 25 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
