How is it different from VMWare Server

[edit]

? --198.49.180.40 (talk) 16:40, 13 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

VMware Workstation is more powerfull and has more features... but this is not for discussing that... SF007 (talk) 22:03, 13 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You don't think a comparison is encyclopedic? 198.49.180.40 (talk) 01:02, 26 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Seconded. One reason to turn to Wikipedia is to identify the differences between products. Doesn't have to be a marketing brochure, but quickly identifying the differences between products should be entirely within the scope of Wikipedia.216.191.35.75 (talk) 13:39, 4 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
OK, fine, it is not a bad idea. SF007 (talk) 15:18, 4 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This is what I came to this article to find out; it's the sort of thing Wikipedia usually does very well and nobody else does at all. Sure, it's easy to gather that workstation isn't free but does more, but am I losing any capabilities by switching? And of course a comparison with player would also be very useful.

By switching which way? From Server to Workstation? You'll lose the ability to access the VM through a browser, do multiple remote sessions to the same guest, and the ability to gracefully start/stop individual VMs automatically with the host system. From Workstation to Server? You'll lose the ability to create more than one snapshot, the Visual Studio integration, the 3D capabilities for Windows guests and "Unity" (display individual apps and icons for them on the host's display). 12.34.213.125 (talk) 15:59, 29 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Latest Stable Release

[edit]

Is it 7.0 or 7.0.1? This needs to be updated —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.162.148.199 (talk) 22:16, 31 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

it's 7.0.1 - i think that it's time to update the screenshot and the VMware logo - the logo changed with the release of version 7 and looks quite different now. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.86.234.2 (talk) 16:18, 20 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It's 7.1 when this is written. Which goes to show that version numbers are moving targets, and should be avoided unless there is a specific reason for mentioning them. I.e. instead of listing what the "latest" is, list the release dates for what releases we know about. That way, an article will still be correct if a new version comes out; it will be incomplete, but at least not inco

VMWare ACE

[edit]

The VMWare ACE section reads like a marketing brochure, and it would not surprise me if it (or large sections of it) was lifted verbatim from VMWare sales material: [...]VMware ACE enables safe access to enterprise resources from assured computing environments. These isolated PC environments run on top of existing PCs. With virtual rights management, built-in copy protection controls, and automatic encryption, VMware ACE helps prevent theft, tampering, and unauthorized copying of applications, data, system settings, and files.[...]

Unless this can be rectified, I suggest removing the entire section, and replacing it with something more informative, like: VMWare ACE is a commercial VM deployment system, which requires dedicated servers and server licensing. The client part can be activated in VMWare Workstation through the purchase of a client license. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.34.213.125 (talk) 15:36, 29 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I read this article and, as an IT person, this sounds like a sale of snakeoil. How can one possibly claim that a VM can protect itself from tampering by the host??? Signature here I don't know how to put it in — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.61.9.77 (talk) 03:52, 5 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Vulnerabilities

[edit]

How many vulnerabilities are listed in the article on Microsoft Windows or even on a specific release like Windows Server 2008? I think that unless they've received widespread press coverage, vulnerabilities history doesn't belong in a Wikipedia article according to WP:UNDUE. All the vulnerabilities listed here are cited from mailing lists and company documents. 86.121.18.250 (talk) 20:17, 29 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. I have deleted the section. --Guy Macon (talk) 10:10, 30 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Too much detail on versions?

[edit]

I'd suggest that there's way too much detail on each version, covering a lot of what the published Release Notes say. I'd suggest that significant issues should be summarised here, but that "Resolved the virtual machine performance issues when using the E1000e adapter" is way too much; there are links to the detailed release notes if anyone need this. Also, detail for older versions could be trimmed as they receded into the past. Pol098 (talk) 17:12, 11 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

at least it should be mentioned the last version, downloading 11.1.4 atm -- 194.0.94.11 (talk) 07:33, 9 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Note up-to-date

[edit]

The latest 14.x release is 14.1.17 released recently, but this and previous releases are not listed — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:644:8000:830:E15F:F68F:AD72:4DD0 (talk) 22:47, 7 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
