Utah football in pro league

[edit]

Does the Utah Ute Player have never been gone on to play in the NFL or the AFL after their senior season before? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.189.21.176 (talk) 00:29, 16 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Utah helmet image

[edit]

User: Msr iaidoka changed the Utah helmet image. He has changed several teams images. I do not particularly care for the change. Also, he has made the image considerably larger. I would like to know what others' opinions are on these changes. Ute in DC (talk) 21:04, 27 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I don't really have a preference either way for the image, but I agree that it is too big. UteFan16 (talk) 06:32, 28 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I resized the helmet image. Unless someone else also prefers the old image, I will leave that alone. Ute in DC (talk) 23:38, 28 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

My objection to the new helmet image has been rendered moot as someone pointed out to me that the previous drawing was copyrighted. The current helmet image is up for deletion. Please feel free to comment there. Ute in DC (talk) 22:29, 1 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

All-time record

[edit]

Which all-time source should we use? Currently we are using College Football Data Warehouse. They have a few games listed that apparently are not used by the University of Utah. Utah put out a press-release saying that Utah won their 600th game against UNLV with their victory on October 17, 2009. College Football Data Warehouse credits Utah with 12 more victories and 1 more loss. To complicate matters, I checked the official NCAA record book, and they have Utah with one fewer victory than the U's records.

I'm inclined to switch to the NCAA's count, but they do not list each coaches' record, which are used throughout the article. If I use the U's media guide, it lists each coaches' record. However, I don't know where the extra victory is coming from that the NCAA does not credit. So what do others think? —Ute in DC (talk) 17:22, 18 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No one else has expressed an opinion on this so I'm going to change this to the official NCAA numbers. That puts the current record at 605-420-31. On the pages of the coaches (e.g. Utah Utes football under Joe Maddock), I'm going to place an asterisk or some other mark next to the games that are not recognized by the NCAA so that a reader knows that it is not included in the official count.—Ute in DC (talk) 06:02, 8 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Conference titles

[edit]

I think the 1912 and 1919 seasons should NOT be listed as conference championships anymore. I will delete them and reduce Utah's conference title count to 24 if no one objects within a suitable time. Although Utah's media guide (page 160) lists them as championships, no one else recognizes them as Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Champions for those years. See College Football Data Warehouse, Shrp Sports 1912 RMAC Standings & 1919 RMAC Standings, and the official RMAC website.

The disputed championships came about because the respective Utah coaches claimed championships those years because they had the same number of losses as the champion. But Utah did not play a full RMAC slate of games so they had fewer wins than the champions. See the respective Utonian yearbooks for a description of those seasons written by the coaches: 1914 Utonian Yearbook (page 162) for the 1912 season and 1921 Utonian Yearbook (page 221) for the 1919 season. —Ute in DC (talk) 19:12, 26 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Having not heard any objection for two weeks, I'm going to do this now. —Ute in DC (talk) 15:28, 10 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Rivals

[edit]

Who listed the Colorado Buffaloes as one of the Ute's main rivals? Even Utah State barely deserves to be listed there, and when was the last time Utah and Colorado played each other? Just because it's expected that a rivalry ought to develop (there is serious doubt that it will ever be competitive enough to nurture a rivalry) doesn't qualify Colorado to be listed here. Removed.

Current Uniform incorrect

[edit]

The uniform depicted as the "Current Uniform" is out of date. That was the uniform from 2008 through 2010. The current uniform has a very different pattern featuring mountains on the sleeve. http://www.blocku.com/2015/2/3/7185143/utahs-uniforms-in-the-pac-12 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 162.223.32.184 (talk) 16:21, 3 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Removed unrelated category

[edit]

I found the article in the Category "1892 establishments in Arizona Territory". This has been removed for fairly obvious reasons. 97.126.224.198 (talk) 16:59, 30 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Recent unsourced / POV edits

[edit]

User:Deekail has twice made unsourced / POV / opinion edits, which I've now twice reverted. Problematic additions include material such as

"Urban Meyer is frequently credited with being the driving force in the extreme nastiness that has developed between the fan bases of BYU and Utah. His attitude was effective in producing results for the football team, but is generally accepted as having diminished the overall interest in the rivalry game"

and

"Upon leaving the Mountain West Conference for the PAC-12 Utah became unsure of their ability to continue scheduling BYU as their annual rivalry game and began a search for a new rival"

- among other examples. Material must be sourced and reflect a neutral point of view, and I would ask Deekmail to stop making these improper edits. Thanks. JohnInDC (talk) 21:36, 19 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, also unexplained removal of sourced content, such as "BYU does not recognize the first six meetings that were held 1896–1898, which the schools split 3–3"; and "Utah has not lost to BYU since 2009". The edits are broadly problematic. JohnInDC (talk) 21:41, 19 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
