Birth year
[edit]According to most historical sources he was 17 when he lead the expedition in 632. He was younger than Aisha(R), and according to hadith, played with Hasan(R) who was born in 624. There's noway he could've been born in 612. If you say otherwise, bring reliable sources. Other wiki doesn't count. Ishan87 (talk) 00:39, 20 August 2021 (UTC)
- If you are going to replace a date that has a citation, with another date, could you at least provide some citations to reliable sources for your preferred date. You say that "according to most historical sources he was 17 when he lead the expedition in 632", so please cite them, and explain the logic in the citation.
- Do you dispute that the date of 612 is stated on page 65 of The History of al-Tabari Vol. 39: Biographies of the Prophet's Companions and Their Successors: al-Tabari's Supplement to His History, translated by Ella Landau-Tasseron, published by State University of New York Press, 1998?-- Toddy1 (talk) 13:56, 21 August 2021 (UTC)
- This edit, which removed a citation and the text it supported had the edit summary: The link doesn't work. The citation was to a book.-- Toddy1 (talk) 20:08, 21 August 2021 (UTC)
@Tayyab Ahmad67: You have changed the years of birth and death in the infobox (though leaving the year of birth in the text of the article unchanged). But you did not provide a citation to a published reliable source for either of these. Please could you add citations - this is required by the Wikipedia policy of verifiability.-- Toddy1 (talk) 06:48, 8 September 2021 (UTC)
- I believe the error has arisen by confusing the date of Muhammad's death (632) with the date of Zayd ibn Haritha's death (629).
- I am not aware of any source asserting that Usama was "younger than Aisha"; if this is a fact, it should be referenced.Petra MacDonald (talk) 11:45, 11 September 2021 (UTC)
@Toddy Tabari is a collection of history, the author himself warned about authenticity of tid-bits such as ages of people and years. That 20 is an estimation of his age, that too in Lunar years. So it shouldn't be taken literally. Ishan87 (talk) 20:47, 7 January 2023 (UTC)
@Petra McDonald, Aisha's descriptions are in Hadith books. There are quite a few references in Sahih Bukhari and Muslim as well. It's hard to pinpoint usable refs for Wikipedia. I need experts help with this l. Ishan87 (talk) 20:51, 7 January 2023 (UTC)
According to the pages of his parents, they married in 614 Ishan87 (talk) 11:18, 10 January 2023 (UTC)
Copying from other websites
[edit]@Diannaa: Most of the text in the article page Usama ibn Zayd is copied from other websites. Earwig's Copyvio Detector shows that:[1]
- It has a 90.4% similarity with en.wikishia.net Usama b. Zayd's Army
- It has an 82.6% similarity with religioninform.com the Muslim Conquests, a Shia View
- It has a 42.9% similarity with villa-immacolata.com the Life of Zayd ibn Harithah
The edit that copied from the en.wikishia.net article was this one dated 21:00, 10 August 2021 by 111.68.97.206. The IP editor who copied the text did not copy the formatting (except for the citations). So headings such as "Appointment of Usama as the Commander of Army", "Oppositions" and "The Time of Preparation of the Army" appear at the beginning of sentences in the text.
I think there was some copying either by en.wikishia.net from religioninform.com, or the other way round. The religioninform.com article has a list of references but no citations. The en.wikishia.net article had the references added on 30th June and the citations on 3rd July 2021.
Before the 10th August IP edit, the Wikipedia article had a much lower similarity to text on other websites. Earwig's Copyvio Detector shows:[2]
- pantheon.world Usama ibn Zayd 45.1%
- villa-immacolata.com the Life of Zayd ibn Harithah 42.9%
- palancola.it Zayd ibn Haritha 41.2%

Thank you for the report. I have removed the content copied from https://en.wikishia.net/view/Usama_b._Zayd%27s_Army. This page is dated May 30, 2021, at which point we already had the overlapping content. This page is an obvious Wikipedia mirror. This page is a text dump of various Wikipedia articles, including Zaynab bint Jahsh for example.— Diannaa (talk) 10:38, 25 August 2021 (UTC)
