'Conventional' Urban Resilience

[edit]

I question the use of the word "conventional" when describing that flavor of urban resilience since the field is about 15 years old at maximum. Further, using the lens of complex adaptive systems when trying to understand urban resilience has been a subtheme within (tension within) the field from the beginning (perhaps even sparking the concept). So implying that it is a conception that emerged "more recently" is misleading and does a disservice to the field's history. --kmcolo (talk) 11:54, 4 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Concept of Urban Resilience

[edit]

The concept of resilience, specifically urban resilience is gaining more importance because of rapid urbanization which tends to have a detrimental impact on ecology and the environment. This article is a great start to this concept but can be better explained by exploring the principle key points of urban resilience. The article can be further expanded to include other factors that test resilience of cities like economy, migration, energy scarcity etc. In addition the article could be more beneficial by incorporating urban governance and discussing the various tools and principles utilized through urban planning and design strategies. It would also be useful to mention current examples of cities that are exploring and developing resilience strategies. While few strategies catering to some climate issues have been discussed, resilience is a complex issue that deals with a wide variety of changes at multiple scales and thus the fact that it requires intensive planning, design and development decisions needs to be further explored in the article.
