Adjusted some of the USM-POV points out of the previous: "The University of Southern Maine is Maine's largest university, with campuses in Portland, Gorham, Augusta and Lewiston."

1- The definition of largest is vague. The claim made by USM is simply the largest number of students enrolled, but this doesn't correctly weight part-time students, or continuing non-degree students as usual college statistics do. Because of that, the actual number of full-time equivalent students is technically lower than the same statistic at the University of Maine.Sturmde 20:58, 11 July 2005 (UTC) — continues after insertion below

Although this is "technically" accurate, with its large number of part-time students, USM actually serves more individual human beings than any other university in Maine.Mervyn Emrys (talk) 17:46, 4 March 2009 (UTC)

2- The campus at Augusta? Currently the University of Maine System chancellor's plan to merge the University of Maine at Augusta into USM was thoroughly rejected by the state legislature, (and by the faculty of UMA), so that claim is also dubious. --Sturmde 20:58, 11 July 2005 (UTC)

Aha, must be one of those campus cops from the self-important Orono campus. Times change. Mervyn Emrys (talk) 02:38, 4 March 2009 (UTC)
Erm, you're arguing with a 4-year old talk page comment by means of an ad-hominem?--Sturmde (talk) 16:37, 24 March 2009 (UTC)
No, not an argument, just an observation. :) Mervyn Emrys (talk) 16:52, 24 March 2009 (UTC)

The "Original Research" tag under the Controversy heading should be removed. There are many supporting sources for the claims in the article; almost every sentence has one or more citations. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mustafakemal1881 (talkcontribs) 15:28, 26 February 2015 (UTC)

USM motto

http://usm.maine.edu/about would seem to indicate that "Connecting You with Tomorrow" is still active. --SarekOfVulcan (talk) 18:47, 27 January 2014 (UTC)

Non-historic content in History section

I came across "USM is a major educational engine in the overall growth and development of economic, civic, and cultural life in southern Maine. USM offers baccalaureate and master's degree programs as well as doctoral programs in Public Policy and School Psychology." at the end of the History section, which doesn't seem quite historical. I am moving it to Academics. — Preceding unsigned comment added by W.E.B. Handle (talkcontribs) 15:09, 18 August 2017 (UTC)

NPOV

After a request at OTRS, I have restored some basic balance to the article. Whatever on thinks of the events, a fair presentation is essential for NPOV. Over-emphasis gives evidence of a clear POV, and is not encyclopedic. DGG ( talk ) 08:10, 22 March 2019 (UTC)
