Information about the university's history and educational philosophy

[edit]
  • User:ElKevbo regarding your deletion of information about historical origin which I have since moved to the history. It does not seem to be out of the ordinary to include information about the historical impetus that led to a university's founding in the lede. The University of Mount Olive, particularly its educational philosophy and mode of instruction, is the source of a great deal of opposition among baptists in North Carolina and was one of three issues central to the split of the Original Free Will Baptist convention from the National Association of Free Will Baptists in 1962 (the latter of which emphasizes indoctrination, whereas the former promotes free will through education and Christian values, hence the name of the convention and this particular denomination of baptists and the importance of mentioning the history of education generally among Free Will Baptists relative to the founding of the university). The liberalization of the university's educational philosophy is a matter of non-trivial importance to the history of Original Free Will Baptists and the university itself.
I'm working on a few items related to the university in my sandbox - one of which is modified language for the lede and more adequately summarizes this element of the university's history. Cc09091986 (talk) 17:34, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
If you are interested, | this history of OFWB discusses some of this as well as the university's role (see page 4) Cc09091986 (talk) 17:51, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
