History section length[edit]

@ElKevbo: Since your inclusion of the maintenance tag in the History section of the article, I have moved content from the section to either the Campus section or to other articles. Another editor made a single edit that removed 314 bytes of content that violated WP:BOOSTER. The article's readable prose size is currently at 52 kB and the History section is currently at 43 kB. At the time of the maintenance tag, the article was at 60 kB. Because the overwhelming majority of the content that has been removed is from the History section, I think I can say that roughly 8 kB has been taken entirely from the History section. Per the WP:SPLIT rule of thumb, the article is still at a length that may require division. What other content in the History section do you think can warrant removal or relocation to other articles? Some of the content in the 2015 to present subsection is included in the J. Keith Motley and Marty Meehan articles (and I'd note that there is a fair number of news items published by the Dorchester Reporter and The Boston Globe related to 2017–2018 budget controversy that I'm aware of that are not summarized anywhere on those articles or the UMass Boston article and I do not think would make them overly detailed). -- CommonKnowledgeCreator (talk) 02:54, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not immediately sure exactly what material should be removed from this section and placed into a new History of University of Massachusetts Boston article but there is more than enough here to substantiate the creation of that new article. ElKevbo (talk) 03:36, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Made another major reorganization to content: moved all Columbia Point campus content in the History section to the Campus section. The History section is now down to 36 kB. -- CommonKnowledgeCreator (talk) 20:00, 23 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Moved more content from History section to Campus section. History section readable prose size now down to 31 kB. -- CommonKnowledgeCreator (talk) 21:30, 23 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Lead sentence[edit]

HI @ElKevbo: regarding your revert here location is already included in the institution name, and regarding your revert here governance was included - not seeing a strong rationale for either of those reverts. Nikkimaria (talk) 03:45, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Fair enough about the location. But the second revision you linked above does indeed reintroduce governance - it explicitly readded "public." ElKevbo (talk) 04:00, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
"public." was present in the lead sentence in both revisions, just in different positions. Nikkimaria (talk) 04:10, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
They are not equivalent. ElKevbo (talk) 11:11, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The links are. But in a broader sense, this version provides more immediate context for this particular institution, bringing to the forefront that it is part of the public UMass system. Nikkimaria (talk) 01:27, 3 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
