[edit]

This really should redirect to University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign, with a hatnote on the article to help the extraordinarily rare individual who actually wants to see the article on the system. 99.999% of the time, the reader is looking for the Champaign-Urbana campus. Anything other than a redirects to UIUC is just an advertising plug for the two glorified community colleges that are ostensibly part of the U of I "system". I have no prob to link to UIUC. I'll change that, add more info and remove the tag.UofIguy (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 00:35, 11 May 2010 (UTC).[reply]

Redux

[edit]

The hatnote on University of Illinois system reads like this:

This article is about the public university system in Illinois, which comprises 3 campuses. Some references to the "University of Illinois," such as in NCAA college athletics, may be specifically referring to the system's founding campus. For that campus, see University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign. For that school's athletic program, see Illinois Fighting Illini.

This is a tacit admission that when the vast majority of people type in "University of Illinois", that they are looking for UIUC, which for over 100 years was simply called "University of lllinois". The more sensible place for the hatnote is on the UIUC article, to assist that rare individual who is actually looking for the system article. HuskyHuskie (talk) 21:34, 24 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
