Merge proposal

The result of this discussion was to merge. A go-ahead from the page creator is good enough for me. Done by WP:BOLD. I asserted this would be uncontroversial. Michaelzeng7 (talk) 19:30, 30 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This article United States Fencing Hall of Fame is concise enough to be merged into United States Fencing Association#Hall of fame. The page has existed for quite a while now and I do not see a very high probability of expansion in the near future. It makes sense to merge it into the article about the organization that runs this hall of fame. I wanted to BOLDly do it, but I wanted to see if there were any objections first. Michaelzeng7 (talk) 17:58, 29 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I had hoped for expansion of the HoF article but as things currently stand a merge-and-redirect makes sense. It can always be put back later if the section should grow. JJL (talk) 18:12, 29 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Removal from infobox of officers

[edit]

I am unclear why an editor saw fit to remove the two indicated officers from the infobox to this article. They are clearly within the parameter. https://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=United_States_Fencing_Association&diff=1032029917&oldid=1032028349

That editor - who has been following me around the project - has failed to answer. --2603:7000:2143:8500:8C73:ABC0:74AB:56FD (talk) 04:41, 7 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Please use {{ping}}. The IP's edit added only 2 (of many) Directors. MOS:INFOBOX states An infobox is a panel, usually in the top right of an article, next to the lead section (in the desktop version of Wikipedia), or at the end of the lead section of an article (in the mobile version), that summarizes key features of the page's subject. Two Directors were replaced with a link to the complete and current board of directors. UW Dawgs (talk) 05:36, 7 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Although this proposal received no discussion, there is an explanation at Talk:Amateur Fencers League of America#Why this article is separate from United States Fencing Association. Not merged. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 15:43, 10 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This article currently states "The USFA was founded on April 22, 1891, as the Amateur Fencers League of America (AFLA) by a group of 20 New York fencers seeking independence from the Amateur Athletic Union, in a dispute over rules for national championships.".

If Amateur Fencers League of America is an earlier name and era of the modern USFA without nuance, the content of the two articles should be merged into this article under the modern name. UW Dawgs (talk) 04:06, 7 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of inline

[edit]

Not sure why an editor (who seems to follow me) deleted this inline .. governing body .. the edit summary did not clarify the edit. --2603:7000:2143:8500:8C73:ABC0:74AB:56FD (talk) 04:39, 7 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The edit summary clearly states MOS:LEADLINK. Multiple editors have reverted these wikilinks which use common terms per same. The edit summary also states the inserted text misrepresented the content of the citation, which is also an ongoing pattern. UW Dawgs (talk) 05:08, 7 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Some proposed changes

[edit]

  • Specific text to be added or removed: President should be David Arias. CEO should be Jack Gierhart (interim). Other key staff: Kate Reisinger, Chief of Sports Performance; Bryan Wendell, Director of Communications; Jill Grotzinger, Director of Development; Suzie Tuffey Riewald, FenceSafe Manager; Glen Hollingsworth, Senior Events Manager
  • Reason for the change: Outdated info
  • References supporting change: https://www.usafencing.org/board-members, https://www.usafencing.org/contact-us

Partly done: Lede changed to reflect the name change. Can't change all mentions because they hold historical significance, at least when it comes to encyclopedic content. I agree we should go back and review instances where the name should be changed, e.g. in recent history, but I don't have the time at present. Also changed Pres & CEO, rest are not really relevant. Block quote

[edit]

That’s good and important text, but too long for the size of this article. The best way to address it is probably to put most of it into a footnote. 2603:7000:2101:AA00:685D:2FA9:74B3:AA16 (talk) 08:47, 27 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Placement of controversy section

[edit]

The controversy section is part of the history of the organization. That is why it is sensible to put it below the history section. The other possibility would be to integrate it into the history section - that would satisfy those editors who are against history sections. Simply hiding it way below the history section makes no sense, and none has been expressed by the editor who keeps doing so.2603:7000:2101:AA00:C4D0:A137:4AA8:D17A (talk) 05:00, 9 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Please add whole name FIE international fencing federation to description? Instead of abbreviations 108.178.108.110 (talk) 17:54, 16 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
