Establishing Notability

[edit]

We need to establish that the subject of this article is Notable by Wikipedia's standards. Please note that Notability is not inherited... the fact that Freemasonry (both as a concept and as an organization) is considered notable does not automatically make an individual Grand Lodge notable. A Grand Lodge needs to be notable on its own.

The guideline that applies is WP:ORG. Essentially, we need to show that someone other than the Freemasons have discussed this Grand Lodge... we need to cite reliable sources that are "independent of the subject"... the Grand Lodge's website, while reliable, is not independent of the subject and so is not enough. • I would think UGLNSW is notable - but understand notability has not been extablished (yet). The GL has been in the Media - would using those references help ? It certainly does get discussed in many books too.. It is linked too by every other GL in Oz - could that be usedful - the building it occupies is noted for its architecture - might that help ? Oldest GL in OZ

[edit]
Quote from current article - "It is the oldest Grand Lodge in Australia, deriving its origin directly from the union in 1888 of the earlier "

It may or may not be the oldest GL in operation - but it certainly was not the first based on a date of 1888. In 1880 "Grand Lodge Victoria" was established. This Vic GL did not attract the English Lodges - but conprised of SC and IC lodges (which were the minority). "Grand Lodge Victoria" ceased when "United Grand Lodge of Victoria" was formed in 1890 attracting many EC, IR and SC lodges. GL NSW has been operating longer than UGLV.
