Lobbying information

User:Lewcm, thanks for helping with many of my recent requests.

On behalf of UHG, I’d like to start addressing issues with the Criticism and controversies section, which has multiple warning banners. Following is a request regarding the Lobbying subsection.

Issue Placement

• The text in this subsection is not about a controversy or negative criticism of the company, so I would like to propose that this information be moved out of the Criticism and controversies section. Perhaps it could be relocated as a separate section below the Finance section.

Issue Inaccurate data

• When checked against the cited sources, I found that some of the dollar amounts in the text are inaccurate. The number of lobbying firms hired by UnitedHealth Group also does not match the cited source.

Issue Unsourced text

• I would also like to propose that the phrase and the company went on to pull in $78,692 million in revenue in the fourth quarter of 2021 alone. be removed, as it is unsourced.

Issue Unrelated text

• I would also like to propose that the text QSSI, a subsidiary of UnitedHealth Group is one of the 55 contractors hired by the United States Department of Health and Human Services to work on the HealthCare.gov web site. be deleted, as it is unrelated to UnitedHealth Group’s lobbying activity.

• Here is the corrected text I am proposing for the relocated Lobbying section.

In 2009, according to OpenSecrets, people affiliated with UnitedHealth Group gave $4.77 million to political candidates and groups. The Affordable Care Act was being discussed in Congress at the time and was subsequently passed in the first quarter of 2010. In 2010 UnitedHealth Group hired nine different lobbying firms to work on its behalf. In addition, its corporate political action committee, called United for Health, spent an additional $1 million on lobbying activities. UnitedHealth Group subsequently spent $3.09 million to $4.94 million from 2011 to 2021.

Additionally, I can't locate where in the source it says that nine lobbying firms were hired. Once you have completed changes, please reopen this edit request. @ARandomName123: Thanks for your help. I've double-checked and found an error on my part. Sorry! Here are the stats and sources I was attempting to note:

• 2009 contributions to political candidates and groups
  • Here, I see $4.77 million, which agrees with my original request
• Lobbying firms hired by UnitedHealth Group in 2010
  • Here, I count 9, which agrees with my original request
• Spending from 2011 to 2021
  • Here, I'm seeing $4.11 million to $4.75 million, which does not match my original request.

Based on the above information, here is the revised text for the Lobbying subsection.

Update to History section

Thank you for making the correction to the Lobbying subsection. I would now like to request an update to information in the History section.

The History section highlights our October 2012 acquisition in Brazil. We have recently sold our operations in Brazil. I would like to propose the following update be added to the 2020s-present subsection in the History section.

• In February 2024, UnitedHealth Group completed the sale of its operations in Brazil.
