I don't know if this is the best place to ask this - but what does the "United" in a football team's name mean? I ask because we have a brand new football league here in Australia (the A-League) and one of the teams in this is called Adelaide United - for no apparent reason (it isn't a merger of two other teams, as you may expect the "United" to mean..).. ideas? -- Chuq 10:14, 12 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Redirect

[edit]

I guess we cannot redirect United to United Airways, can we? User:Kushal_one --69.150.163.1 18:29, 25 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have proposed retargetting Untied here as a {{R from typo}} and adding a link to Wiktionary:untied to this page. Your comments in the discussion at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2013 April 7#Untied would be welcome. Thryduulf (talk) 14:57, 7 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Association Football teams

[edit]

I've added the four 'Uniteds' in the FA Premier League to the 'sports' disambiguation section - they're all known simply as 'United' among fans in their local area/region (ie use of 'United' is not restricted only to fans of that club). LNWWatcher (talk) 10:27, 31 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
