Contested deletion
[edit]This article should not be speedily deleted for lack of asserted importance because...
This Union Special article, should not be deleted for several reasons: First, Union Special was a major industrial sewing machine manufacturer in the United States. Many of their machines are still in use world wide and parts are readily available. Second, There is already a list of sewing machine companies, albeit as a catagory, here: [[1]]. There are many companies in that catalog that are far smaller than Union Special, yet have their own Wikipedia page. Third, the history of the sewing machine is just as complex as the history of the automotive industry, (which has their own list of automobile manufacturers) and should be treated as such. This industry needs to be developed further on wikipedia, not reduced. Forth, the company produced over a million industrial sewing machines, which makes it a major feat for any industry.
I also dispute the issue that there was copyright infringement on the Wikipedia page from the Union Special website. The website: http://www.unionspecial.com/about-us/history/ was only used as a source, not copied verbatim. --Dinkytown talk 22:29, 20 April 2016 (UTC)
- I have reviewed the deleted content, and confirm that the content I removed is identical to some of the content on the source page. — Diannaa (talk) 23:09, 20 April 2016 (UTC)
- User:Dinkytown I agree that these kinds of companies are important to document. However, when I did a reference search I came up with nothing. You need to come up with some references, in books or on the Internet, for this page to survive deletion. To give you a little time, I'll change the tag from speedy to PROD, which gives you a week. Diannaa, I'm hoping that's a reasonable compromise! HappyValleyEditor (talk) 00:01, 21 April 2016 (UTC)
- Looks like we have some time to think about that, as "the wiki is in read-only mode".HappyValleyEditor (talk) 00:05, 21 April 2016 (UTC)
- Prod is up. This blog post seems to say it is a notable company. It mentions the company making the cover of a pre-Internet industry magazine.HappyValleyEditor (talk) 00:10, 21 April 2016 (UTC)
- I added three references myself, and removed all the tags except refimprove. This is a giant in the sewing machine industry, and I suspect most of the press is pre-Inernet. Check out the way they talk about the company's machine in the Wallpaper magazine article. It's a classic in American manufacturing. (And I'm not even American.)
