Otaka-class?

[edit]

The article says

"On 30 July, Tarpon again headed for Japanese home waters. On 16 August, she sighted a Japanese task force which included an aircraft carrier of the Otaka-class"

I have serious doubts about this claim. First, I've never heard of an "Otaka-class" carrier. Second, Blair's Silent Victory, the authoritative source on the Pacific subwar, makes no mention of this attack; a carrier is such a high-value target, he can hardly have failed to. Third, DANFS is derived from wartime records, which are notorious for exaggeration & error. Corroboration is certainly necessary. Trekphiler 14:30, 5 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Porpoise Class?

[edit]

The article states she was a Porpoise class submarine. However, the Navy refers to her as one of two Shark class submarines: http://www.history.navy.mil/photos/sh-usn/usnsh-t/ss175.htm Obxdiver (talk) 17:39, 20 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Blair?

[edit]

There is "Blair" reference that is frequently referenced and alluded to in the article, but there is no Blair reference listed. What is the actual source?--Esprit15d • talkcontribs 15:13, 18 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

See Blair, Clay, Jr. Silent Victory: The U.S. Submarine War Against Japan. Philadelphia: Lippincott, 1975. Orenburg1 (talk) 15:37, 18 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Misused template

[edit]

@Orenburg1: you have restored to {{more footnotes}} hatnote to this article, even though it doesn't apply to this article since it doesn't have a general references section at all. Did you mean to put the template {{More citations needed}}--Esprit15d • talkcontribs 16:16, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Silly me. I have changed the hatnote (altho I think all the necessary reference works are there under Works cited-just needs some dedicated person to input the citations). Regards.Orenburg1 (talk) 17:23, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
