1972

[edit]

USS Talbot did not make port in Uruguay during the cruise in 1972. I made this change recently, but apparently the change did not remain. I was onboard during that cruise. We operated with one ship from the Uruguain Navy for a couple of days before proceeding up the Rio de la Plata to Buenos Aires. I remember going on deck for a smoke before going on watch and seeing the lights from Montevideo off our starboard beam as we passed. I then took the throttle watch in the engine room until we got to Buenos Aires.--Bendixsen (talk) 23:00, 26 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

There are two problems. The first is that you deleted the item with no comment whatsoever, so it was unclear what your motivation was. Uncommented removals are indistinguishable from vandalism. The second problem is that the US Naval Historical Center's DANFS article about Talbot says the ship stopped in Uraguay. "Talbot made calls in Venezuela, Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, Chile, Peru, the Canal Zone, and Colombia before returning to Newport on 3 December 1972"[1] You would need a verifiable source that says that the ship did not go there. --Dual Freq (talk) 23:37, 26 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I apologize for any inconvenience or confusion. Would a copy of the Cruise Book for UNITAS XIII be a verifiable source? It is shown here: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150197846787589.376605.176358657588&type=1 Our final itinerary is shown on Page 33 (Image 36 of 62). BTW - I am on Page 55 (Image 60 of 62) in the middle on the right. --Bendixsen (talk) 15:03, 27 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
