Attack

[edit]

. If it says that, it is wrong. My father was the engineering officer on the Hughes when it was hit and responsible ultimately for preventing it's loss.He removed the plate from the wreckage of the plane that hit them and had it encased in perspex with the date on it. It sits on our mantle shelf.I can easily supply a picture when I am back home.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.23.205.60 (talkcontribs)

Your entire comment did not make it into this page. I removed the identification of the aircraft from the main article because two sources disagreed and DANFS does not specify the type. As for the artifact, unless it's authenticated and/or in a museum or published article, it can't be used to prove or disprove anything. It's interesting, but you understand that wikipedia can't use an unpublished 1st or 2nd hand account of events as evidence. It needs to be published by a reliable third party. Please see WP:RS for information on reliable sources. --Dual Freq (talk) 00:00, 26 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
