Commissioning and first commanding officer of USS YMS 369
[edit]I served aboard the USS YMS 369 from September 1943 until April 1945. During that time we swept for mines and performed escort duty in the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean while based in Key West; in the Gulf of Maine while based in Portland; and the approaches to New York City while based in Tompkinsville, Staten Island.
There are two errors in the history of AMS-18 (YMS 369). The commissioning date was October 11,1943 not October 9.
The first commanding officer was not Lt. Wilson but Lt. Joseph R. McMahon. He served until May 22,1944 when he was relieved by Lt. Harold Howe II. I replaced Lt. Howe as executive officer.
