early USC nickname(s)
[edit]"Trojans" was adopted in 1912. Nickname(s) in earlier seasons are more contested.
- USC's position is "Up to that time, teams from USC were called the Methodists or Wesleyans and neither nickname was looked upon with favor by university officials." and "The first USC football squad is formed in 1888. Before being nicknamed the Trojans in 1912, they are known variously as the USC Cardinals and as the Methodists.".
- LA Times includes "HENRY H. GODDARD and FRANK H. SUFFEL (1888, 2-0)--They began USC football, organizing the Methodists--later to be the Trojan..."
Any research assistance is appreciated re 1888~1911 team articles. WP:COMMONNAME leads me to Methodists at this point. UW Dawgs (talk) 19:29, 31 October 2016 (UTC)
"Arts and Entertainment" section necessary?
[edit]I believe the "Arts and Entertainment" section is okay here. John Wayne, arguably America's most famous actor, played at USC. That makes this cogent in my opinion. If you object, please explain why rather than summarily tag it. Thanking you in advance. Chisme (talk) 04:18, 3 May 2017 (UTC)

Recruiting football
[edit]May I suggest football recruiters for SC look at Brent Venables comment today on espn college football recruiting why he elects not to poach football recruits of Clemson even though he was the lead recruiter on many of them. It’s very clear his feelings and most would say it’s about ethics here in recruiting young men and doing it the right and correct way. Hopefully it will hit home with the athletic dept recruiters etc. 2600:8804:5A00:23F0:602C:B573:6111:7B99 (talk) 01:35, 17 December 2021 (UTC)
