Linking to "Carrier strike group" vs "Carrier battle group"

[edit]

@TheArmchairSoldier: While I understand that this article's current name "UK Carrier Strike Group" has a name more similar to Carrier strike group than Carrier battle group, it is important to point out that on Wikipedia the article Carrier battle group deals with the transnational doctrine of an aircraft carrier-based formation, while the article Carrier strike group deals with the specific application of the doctrine within the US Navy. Hence, if this article is about the Royal Navy-specific application of the doctrine of an aircraft carrier-based formation, then it makes more sense to wikillink it to Carrier battle group than Carrier strike group when trying to describe the subject in the lead. I hope this helps you understand it better. Epistulae ad Familiares (talk) 13:24, 20 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Epistulae ad Familiares: Thank you for your explanation. If I understood correctly, your edit describes the UK Carrier Strike Group as a type of carrier battle group but that isn't the focus of this article; the article is focused on the unit within the Royal Navy, headed by Commander United Kingdom Carrier Strike Group. I forgot to add for clarity's sake: I'm not opposed to linking to carrier battle group, I'm opposed to it being described as a type of something. Would you agree with the following edit:
The UK Carrier Strike Group (UKCSG) is a carrier battle group of the British Royal Navy.

@TheArmchairSoldier: Thank you for your explanation too, and I understand your perspective better now. I agree entirely with your proposed edit. I have gone on to carry out the edits as you have suggested. Epistulae ad Familiares (talk) 13:47, 20 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
