"Axis"
[edit]Historical note: Turkey was not an "axis" power during the First World War as the Axis only existed during the Second World War (and consisted of Germany and Italy, with Japan tacked on as well). Turkey was a nonbelligerent power in the Second World War, but declared war on Germany just in time to "win". The side on which the Ottoman Empire (as against Turkey, they're two different powers) fought in the First World War is often referred to as the "Central Powers". However, be careful even saying that "Turkey" was part of this grouping, as the Republic of Turkey didn't exist at the time. BigHaz 09:36, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
Culturally Muslim
[edit]What do you mean by "Culturally Muslim" under religion? Several flaws have been placed on this issue. Firstly, being a Muslim is being a follower of Islam, a universal religion, and there are Muslims of different races all over the world. Islam doesn't not belong to one particular race. Secondly, not all Turks are Muslims - there are many among the minority groups who are Christians, Jews and even Atheists en:Turkish people. Thus, I've decided to replace "Culturally Muslim" to "Sunni Islam" since that the great majority of Turks in Australia, like the rest of the world, are Sunni Muslims. Besides, we are not sure whether all Turks are Muslims. --124.183.222.67 (talk) 03:39, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
