Merger
[edit]There is a request for merger but no rationale. Since both articles appear to be about the same thing, I support a merger. If there are no disputes any time soon, I will do the job myself. Zab 13:59, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
- Dear Zab,
- I support your view.
- Regards,
- Kulkarni457
I disagree, i find that it is much better to have Tropism as the all encompassing definition, with the variations chemotropism, heliotropsim etc left separately under its banner, as this easily and simply outlines the distinction between different types of Tropisms. Regards, Rasputin.
- Please sign your comments, people. And use indentation for clarity (I have done for you). I support the merge; gravitropism is obviously a subclass of the tropisms, but the page is too short. I suggest summarizing each form of tropism in this article, merging any that are too small to stand on their own. Distinction between the types should not be made less clear by merging. - The merge notice didn't specify what should be merged where. I agree with Richard that Tropism should be the all-encompassing article if a merge occurred and I would like organ tropism added for my convenience. - Mgm|(talk) 16:32, 1 October 2007 (UTC)
Repeat
[edit]Is there any reason the Greek origin of the word is mentioned twice in the first paragraph? Carsinmotion (talk) 03:36, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
Ecotropism discussion
[edit]The "types of tropism" section has two paragraphs that discuss ecotropism. One paragraph repeats a paragraph in the main article. Both paragraphs should be moved to a more appropriate place. Hgb asicwizard (talk) 19:21, 8 December 2009 (UTC)
I tried, but got reverted. The person who reverted even left in previous editing mistakes, so wasn't too worried about the article. Some poet who uses Ecotropic in a different context has copied and pasted that paragraph three times around wikipedia, I left it on the page for ecotropic, but there doesn't seem to be a need for it on this article which is clearly about the biological uses 131.111.186.95 (talk) 14:21, 10 March 2010 (UTC)
- Revert undone. Sorry 'bout that. Guess I acted tropically...an action done without cognitive thought. Obviously needed to check closer. Please use edit summaries to help avoid such in the future. Vsmith (talk) 16:50, 10 March 2010 (UTC)
Review/ edits
[edit]1. The article is accurate, but there need to be sources added to certain facts. 1. "In English, the word tropism is used to indicate an action done without cognitive thought: However, "tropism" in this sense has a proper, although non-scientific, meaning as an innate tendency, natural inclination, or propensity to act in a certain manner towards a certain stimulus." This needs to be referenced as it is a fact and it can be proven.
2. "(although not necessarily restricted to them)" can either be taken out as it is repeating information, or a specific example can be included to validate the claim along with a source.
Overall the article is very good, a neutral tone prevails throughout it. Some sources can be added and some repeating phrases such as the one above can be edited.
