Moved from article
[edit]I removed the following content from the article. It's well-written, but needs to be reworked so that it doesn't immediately go out of date. Zagalejo^^^ 18:37, 12 January 2012 (UTC)
In his first several games in the NBA, Thompson has performed well, given his limited minutes. Coach Byron Scott is 'old-school' and likely expects the rookie to be patient and focused, so additional minutes will not be forthcoming immediately. Thompson has ably backed up Antawn Jamison at the power forward spot and injected a strong defense mindset into the Cavs, matching teammate Anderson Varejao for intensity and grittiness. His shot-blocking and defensive presence will put pressure on Coach Scott to increase his playing time, and he has been compared to Larry Nance, an icon of Cavs history and winner of the first slam-dunk contest. Thompson already ranks in the top twenty among NBA shot-blockers, at 1.6 blocks per game [1], which makes his blocks per minute among the top five in the NBA.
Offensively, Thompson is developing his post-up game, and has to work on his free-throw shooting. As the Cavs feature Kyrie Irving and a host of guards, Thompson is not needed to provide substantial output on the offensive end. However, the Cavaliers lack a reliable low-post player and every team in the NBA needs a low-post presence. If Thompson wanted to emulate Nance, he might decide to work on a baseline jumper from 10-15 feet: that was what Nance took at the very beginning of every Cavs game for many years.
Defensively, Thompson has stayed out of foul trouble and is learning the ropes.
Thompson is in a favourable position in that the Cavs are in rebuilding mode. Antawn Jamison's contract is expiring at the end of this year, and he may be traded mid-year both for his offensive skills as a capable stretch four and as an expiring contract. In addition, Anderson Varejao, the current starting center, is highly attractive to a contender both for playing skills and his reasonable contract. Therefore, Thompson could well be the starting power forward by year-end, and a major part of a new defensive front. Cleveland is a town that likes defensive toughness; Charles Oakley is a native son, so Thompson's style of play is sure to be welcome.
Thompson's minutes will certainly be increased over the course of the year due to expectations and team need; the likelihood of Jamison re-signing with the Cavs were virtually nil, even before he began dishing on his desire to play for his hometown Bobcats 'someday'.[2]
Thompson characterized his own style in this way:
"If I can block five shots, I'm a happy camper. I get more juice out of blocking shots." [3]
In Cleveland, that's music to fan's ears.
Agent says he signed
[edit]Thompson's agent told ESPN.com that he re-signed with Cleveland. [4] I know its typical to wait for an "official" press release, but the general consensus at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_National_Basketball_Association/Archive_26#Agreeing_to_vs._signing_a_contract before that it's futile to revert if an agent made the announcement, even if you choose not to add the signing to the article in yourself. If someone wants to contest it, follow dispute resolution and avoid edit wars.—Bagumba (talk) 02:34, 22 October 2015 (UTC)
- Talking to me right? When reverting, I was aware of all that. The main reason I reverted here was because there was formatting errors (of course no sources influences the decision to revert). In these situations, I tend to revert once and leave, because someone will just add it again, no sourcing of course. I also don't like to get involved in pointless wars; all these things are eventually 'sorted out'. (An example of that is the never-ending height changes at Kristaps Porziņģis that are constantly popping up on my watchlist. I could change it to the NBA.com listed height every time I see that in my watchlist but I don't because that's a waste of time. I believe I corrected that Porziņģis listed height once and that's it. That's what I have done here.) —DangerousJXD (talk) 03:09, 22 October 2015 (UTC)
- @Bagumba: The problem is though, the Cavaliers need to make a corresponding move as they already have 20 players on their roster [5] (minus Chris Johnson who was waived, and Thompson's FA listing). DaHuzyBru (talk) 06:32, 22 October 2015 (UTC)
- With all due respect to WP:CRYSTAL, wouldn't it just be a formality? It's not like they'll decide they don't have room for him.—Bagumba (talk) 06:37, 22 October 2015 (UTC)
- Per the ESPN ref, "The Cleveland Cavaliers and Tristan Thompson have agreed on a five-year, $82 million deal, agent Rich Paul told ESPN.com on Wednesday." What's differentiates this to any other player signing rumor? Report deals always have "will sign" or "to sign" or "agreed to". This is exactly the same. Paul hasn't stated he has actually signed, the two parties have merely come to an agreement, just like any other reported deal. DaHuzyBru (talk) 06:45, 22 October 2015 (UTC)
- I think the last discussion was also about agreements, not signings. I'm not saying he signed yet, as an editor I'm saying I'm not going to bother because people will keep changing it. And his agent is an identified source, as opposed to the usual unnamed sources. If I semi protect it now, it's a matter of time before an autoconformed editor changes it. The only real solution is full protection, if people want to consider that.—Bagumba (talk) 07:14, 22 October 2015 (UTC)

Chicago Bulls
[edit]At the very beginning of the article it lists all the teams Tristan Thompson played for, except the Chicago Bulls. You shouldn't name all the teams he played for then leave off one. He played for the Chicago Bulls, list that team along with the other teams that were listed. 2600:8801:131C:6F00:6C94:5F78:45CD:FAD7 (talk) 07:07, 17 February 2023 (UTC)
Does he have two right hands?
[edit]In 2012-13 he switched his shooting hand from left to right, and in 2013-14 he switched from left to right again?
Does he have four hands or something? Galagora (talk) 14:00, 15 March 2024 (UTC)
