[edit]the Prix de Rome is administered by the Academie des Beaux Arts, part of the French Institute. The CNSM de Paris or the Paris Conservatory has nothing to do with this process. I therefore changed this reference accordingly Musikfabrik 14:25, 24 December 2005 (UTC)
Deletions of paragraphs of factual text about a notable composer covered in the ODM
[edit]I don't think it's ever acceptable to delete chunks of factual text simply because there are no inline citations. This is what happened here on 6 January. I've restored the text and referenced the main facts. I've also notified the Contemporary music project if anyone wants to take up the issue there. --Kleinzach 09:17, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
- Not only is it acceptable, it's recommended if the material violates WP:BLP.
- Thanks for finding the references. Hopefully, that will settle this. --Ronz (talk) 16:36, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
'Polyphony'
[edit]I would strongly dispute the use of the word polyphony at the end of the first paragraph. The article referenced makes no use of the term - nor seems to imply anything similar. The entire Grove article on him never even mentions the word 'polyphony' or 'counterpoint'.
His techniques of analysing sound are effectively means of deriving harmony which may often be articulated in the music with what he calls 'aleotoric arpeggiation', and this sometimes resembles conventional 'figuration' - not counterpoint. He is very much a 'vertical' composer. How about 'as a means of deriving harmonies'?
